Does anyone have any advice on whether to keep Call Ducks in pairs or a one male with several females ratio? I’ve been keeping call ducks for years and I’ve tried a few different ways, but each creates unique problems.
When I have pairs, the males fight constantly. When I’ve had one male and a bunch of females, he tends to have a favourite (it’s always a white female I’m not sure why!) and the others seem to be left out, they don’t seem to be too upset but the females seem to squabble amongst themselves.
I keep them as pets, so I’m very invested in their emotional well being
and it’s so distressing to see them bully each other. Sometimes I’ve had a pair that’s completely content and sometimes they’ll be a male who will fight for all the females and mess things up. I can never seem to get them all happy!
Also is this level of pickiness unique to call ducks? When I talk to people who have other breeds they seem to not have this sort of problem.
