Call Duck Hatching

I’m happy to help:)

I think that as long as the baby doesn’t seem distressed you could probably leave it for an hour or 2, then maybe break away a little more shell as long as you don’t come across any more large veins and no bleeding. It’s possible it will need a little more shell taken off around the edges before it can push out - just go slow and always stop if you see veins.

I started pushing the membrane back slowly and no bleeding at all, so I’m very confident he’s ready.
I’ll peel back more shell like you said and let the baby push its way out! If he hasn’t pushed out in a couple hrs I’ll proceed further.
I probably need to get some sugar water ready for when he is out to have him drink every couple of hrs to regain his strength.
Thank you! I promise to keep you posted!

Sounds like a good plan but I wouldn’t offer water right away. It’s quite normal for ducklings not to eat for 12-24 hours or even a bit longer. I always offer water when they are fluffed up or if I’m hatching a bunch I might leave them in the incubator over night and then take them out in the morning and offer water. I just worry they might inhale water if they try drinking when they are super newly hatched because they are so uncoordinated.

Looking forward to updates!

Ok that’s good to know!

Ok, baby is out! But the part where his yolk sac was is a bit swollen looking. Should I do anything for it?

Yay!! That doesn’t look bad at all! You can put a bit of antibiotic ointment on it for a few days but it will probably shrivel up super fast. I had some like that and I just kept an eye on them to make sure they didn’t get infected and they were fine.
Did it push out on its own?

Alright everyone! Meet Popcorn!
The guy I ordered the eggs from said he had snowy, buff, and silver call ducks. Any guess on what color it may be?

That’s such a relief!
Yep pushed out on its own just fine…🥹
I’ll tag you in another post once I get more photos and make it on a different thread.

I’m not an expert on colors. I think people in the duck section of the forum can help you. The bill looks a bit dark to be buff but that’s my only guess right now. All my buffs lightened up quickly after hatching though
