Call duck quality!

Do not like. The drake is decent, but the hen is not. I wouldn’t even try to breed SQ stock from them.
Ok thank you!! They are wanting $230 but I can only afford $130
Hard pass. That’s way too much. Clearly someone selling Calls that knows they are supposed to be expensive and nothing else.

This person is actively trying to help you and is vastly more qualified than most of us when it comes to finding you birds. Just be patient. The more you look the more you’re going to find idiots selling poor quality Calls for high quality prices. Patience is a virtue.

2. As it has been stated before, you could show a Pekin in a 4-H show as a Call and probably place. Be sure that showing Calls in your chapter is even allowed before purchasing them. Mine was so small the only poultry admitted were broilers. 4-H is more about showmanship and quality than quality alone.

3. If you don’t know a thing about Calls stop chiming in. Cali can’t tell the difference between low and high quality Calls herself and doesn’t need differing opinions coming from people who literally have no experience with them.

Ugh, they're round in the head 🥰

I agree with the 4h aspect for the most part. Our judges actually were usually people that knew a lot about poultry and would actually go through the rows and look up (even briefly pictures in google) breeds they weren't super familiar with to get a general idea about what they wanted. They could (and would) disqualify birds for not being placed in the right class.

But do check first. I was apparently very lucky to have a fair that accepted literally anything domestic. Even peafowl and emus were allowed in the Game and Ornamental section (though obviously we never had emus come). But I guess that isn't the case everywhere

I’m going to state my honest opinion.

I am going to kindly suggest not to purchase that pair. As stated, black on the bill of that hen is a disqualification. They look to be breeder quality and that hen would not do well showing because of that bill defect. That’s a very high price.

I purchased my SQ pair from a very well known breeder in the calls and they only set me back $200.00. There will be many for sale soon at fairs and up coming shows. Also a lot of the big breeders start selling around this time of year. If I were you, I’d wait until I find a pair that I’m totally satisfied with for a reasonable price. I just want you to be happy with the birds you choose and do well in showing them. You may not need top of the line BB birds, but you do not want to end up with high priced birds that aren’t show quality either. I don’t want you to be overcharged for birds that aren’t as advertised. It took me about a year of searching to find my pair. Well worth it in the end and I’m glad I didn’t settle for less.

Good luck with your call search, I look forward to seeing pictures once you finally get a pair. ❤️ ;)

Speaking of which, I just hatched quite a few ducklings out of my pair about a month or two ago.I’ve been growing them out and sorting them as juveniles. :)

Here’s two of the ones I’m keeping back to breed.
A little drake and hen. They have a lot more filling out to do, as they are still young.

HAIL no. What is wrong with people??? You can get an actual exhibition quality pair for $200. Sometimes $150.

Where are you finding these? All these people better be glad it's not me looking. I'd tell them how overpriced their pet quality ducks are. Good grief.
