Call duck uses

Wellll....I just made the mistake of reading that post outloud. Now my other DD (4) is running around the house going "Awww, come on mom!" LOL. She now knows you are in her corner, and thanks you. She's 6. DH is like doing a repetitive bird count while rolling his eyes in his head... I think he is going to pass out soon. I have that small, rumbling sound in my head, you know the sound right before the wall starts to go and you cave.........NOOOOOO!!!

So, if, IF, I were to search for a call duck, should I get one from a private breeder, or a hatchery, given that it would have to be justified as a 4-h thing?

I TOTALLY AGREE !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! i JUST GOT 9 -- 4 FOR ME AND 5 FOR A FRIEND FROM DUCKLUCK (IL) I DROVE 13 HRS ROUND TRIP FOR THEM CUTE LITTTLE DEVILS... SHE HAS MORE HATCHING.. NOT SURE WHERE U ARE !!!!!!

Yes, where are you? I have 9 less-than-a-week-olds, one 2-week old and one 4 week old that are available. PM me if interested in any of these. Also have a hatch due this week. All parents certified NPIP.

Thanks for chimming in everyone! I think I'm sold. Though I am not telling DD yet. I'll let her think I am the big bad practical ogre a little bit longer;) If anyone has any advice that pertains to Calls, that is different from other ducks in terms of care, feel free to boombard me with it now.

Yeah, I know. I may get some eggs. I think I will just tell them they are large eggs from a meat breed chicken so that they will totally write off any attachment. LOL.

I know you all will love them. Calls are my favorite, when you show them the only thing you have to do is throw them in a pool and they do all the work unlike chickens where you scrub and rinse and wash, rinse and wash!

Oh by the way once you get one the numbers grow rapidly

LOL, Oh I can imagin ending up with more than a few. It seems to be the theme around here, and I have to say I am the worst. "Honey lets just order a few more chickens, they are so fun, and people will surely buy the eggs," has led to all the Australorp chicks, the four ducks we already have, the 5 polish crested and 10 Partrigde Rocks, and even more ducks which are coming in may. LOL, I just gave up and built an 8x4 brooding pen in my dinning room today!! It is a far cry from the original 4 hens we bought from a local farm. I am going to love them though, I know it. If we get eggs and get lucky with the hatch, we will be starting with more anyway so I give up... I'll just keep building....
