Hi! Yesterday my momma call kicked an egg out of the nest that had just externally pipped. I tried putting it back in but she kicked it out again. So i put it in the incubator and it hatched!!!! After it had dried out I put it back in the nest with its 6 siblings. But..... I want to raise it now. I have always wanted to raise one but never had one hatch out

. So now i have this one and everything needed to raise it. Has anyone ever raised a lone call duck? and will it probably die? And or what should, let momma raise it or just keep it?

. (ps. momma is very scared of humans and i want to raise them to be nice but momma wont)

Hi
If I were you, I would raise that duckling at home.
If it's not scared and want to be with you, you could do it. But if the baby had a large time with the mother better let it with him.
Good luck

Has it already imprinted on you? If the mother's already rejected it, I think there's your sign. Keep us updated or PM me, in about a week I'm going to be in the same boat as you when this egg hatches!

Just remember that if it does imprint on you and you are raising it as a lone duckling; then full time job doesn't even begin to describe what you are letting yourself in for!

It's well worth it though: but I'd go and get a few hours sleep now while you still can :p

I dont know if it has imprinted on me. When i go in the coop it comes away from the rest of its siblings and walks towards me, but i think i will raise it. It continuously peeps while alone in the brooder. Is there anything to do about that. I do have a stuffed animal in with it. If i have a heat pad can it sleep with me? (it would have a diaper on) Would it still be ok if it slept with its mom for just one night?

OK I am going to keep it, IF I can figure out how to make it less lonely while in the brooder. It will stay with me while im home but when i have to leave it, it will go in the brooder. How to I make it stop peeping and not be lonely while in the brooder????
