I was trimming my Call Ducks nails this afternoon and when i picked up my white male i noticed his vent area was soiled and i saw something pale pink colored.
On examining him closer i discovered it was his male part about half out pale and cold to the touch.
I touched it and it didn't retract or even move i parted his down and examined it and it appeared normal only pale and limp.

I had to go to the store and came back and it's still out and thats about 3 hours later.
He is a older duck but his mate and him hatched out 7 baby's about 3 months ago and they were all healthy.

What should i do about this?

Gosh i read on a site that said if it doesn't retract he should be put down I don't think my heart could take that

In mice, their penis can prolapse, in ducks, I am not sure. The treatment for the male mice is prepH for a few days and it is usually back to normal. However...if they get an infection, they are removed from the colony.

Hope your duck can get better.

Thank you i have been looking on the web and found something similar to what you said.
It said to separate the duck and clean off the penis and apply antibiotic ointment until it improved.
I think the hemorrhoid medicine sounds like a good idea it will help shrink it and heal it too.
Unfortunatlty it also said if it doesn't retract the duck should be put down

It's dark now and i don't have lights where my ducks are i will go out first thing in the morning and clean it and apply the ointment.

Anyone else have any advice?

I second the Preperation H. It soothes and shrinks tissue. Not just for hemorrhoids.

Because his vent as soiled I would give him a warm bath and clean up that area before using the Prep H.

I had a male Mallard that done that one time. I used Preparation-H and pushed it back in with my finger. I separated him from the others since (ahem) ducks like to play with things that look like worms. After a few days, he was fine and went on to breed and behave like a male duck should.

I will remove him first thing in the morning give him a bath and get his treatment started right away and THANK YOU SO MUCH

Our Indian Runner Drake had this same problem about a month ago. It's called Phallus Prostration. He was a new to us duck. The day he arrived we noticed he was hanging out about 1-2". We brought him and washed him well. It had been too long, so we snipped it off back to pink part. There was no bleeding and Dick the duck is doing fine. There is hope for your duck.

This site gave me the courage to snip before I had DH put him down.
I hope your duck does well.

I'm Thrilled
