@Soon2BChixMom I think you should get some more pullets or hens and then come spring introduce a cockerel or cock. Don’t take the first cockerel/cock that comes your way because you want one in the flock. You have to ask yourself why you want the rooster. I know you said protection but you could also hatch eggs and then raise up the cockerels for meat.
