I only use pine shavings..I have sand down in all my Runs so that doesn't stink because I keep turning it over..Yeah I use pdz in the summer with some pine shavings on top. I can't wait to get back to that everything stays so much cleaner and smells better.
I finally culled my one leghorn hen thiis week. She was just getting too nasty.
All the chickens and ducks were out when I did it and I was worried they would be scared or angry at me, but about 30 min later a hawk started circling and everyone ran and squeezed around my legs like I was a momma hen, lol.
This was the first hen I culled. It was neat seeing all the yolks that were developing inside.
