My contact for the Araucana pullets is having a very hard time finding any for a reasonable price within a reasonable distance. I found a place 3 hours from my house that sells them for $50 an Araucana which is a pretty low price for the breed. My contact found a breeder that’s only an hour and a half away, but he Breeder wants $100 for a clean faced (non tufted) culled color project pullet & $150 for a tufted culled color project pullet![]()
Another Araucana Breeder sells her show quality birds after a year or two, but she sells them through an online auction and he starting bid is $100
Greenfire Farms doesn’t even have Araucanas

I am more than willing to drive the 3 hours each way to get the pullets. I am personally just looking for pet quality Araucana pullets and I don’t need to get show quality birds. I emailed the breeder asking her what she does with her Araucana culls and if she would sell some to me. It’s a known fact that culled chickens from show quality parents are much cheaper than their show quality siblings. I don’t care if type, comb, leg color, etc. is off, as long as it’s an Araucana pullet and lays blue eggs is what matters to me.Yikes, Are you or your parents willing to make the 3 hr drive? That's what I would do.. Although there goes half your day driving![]()
I just cooked a spaghetti squash for the Birds..Will serve it with peas...Hope Chicken Little gets a Taste too?..
The Ducks love it too...

My mom gave spaghetti squash to my last flock and they loved it. I told my mom that she has to have lettuce and tomatoes at home for Wendy and AlbastruI just cooked a spaghetti squash for the Birds..Will serve it with peas...Hope Chicken Little gets a Taste too?..

Yes that’s true that they will be good quality stock. I have spoken to my contact and told him that if he’s unable to find any this year that I’ll happily wait until he finds some or if he incubates some Araucana eggs this spring.
Sounds like you got it all thought out. I agree, The culls are much cheaper than the show quality ones, But since they don't come from a hatchery stock they're still a pretty good quality and for a cheap price as well![]()
