Ok, So here's what happened, I went to pick up the 10 chickens she had since I was already near her place picking up some feed for my birds, They weren't as bad looking as I thought they would be, The only thing is she got rid of the spitzhauben and a wyandotte and gave them to a friend :barnie She had also told me she knew someone who didn't want their chickens anymore, And they were actually close to where I live, So I said i'd give them a call. They were home and said I could come pick them up now, Which I did. It was a nice small cow farm, And the people were nice, But when I saw the chickens I just freaked out. They were in a very dark and small pen in an old smelly barn. Their were no windows or vents for fresh air to come through, Just 6 mite infested sick looking chickens. They've never been outside to forage or anything. They're clearly lacking vitamin D. So I put the one lady's chickens in my old pheasant pen and put the sick chickens in the gazebo, But before I did that I gave everyone a nice bath and dusted them with diatomaceous. Including the gazebo itself.
Here's everyone now, The 6 I tried to get them to go out in the pasture but the insisted on staying in their gazebo, They went out for a minute to look around but went straight back in.

This is Lucy, She's the worse looking one out of all of them.

You’re such an awesome person for rescuing these chickens Jaimie! Gosh those people who kept their chickens in a smelly barn sound like my boss. She keeps chickens in 8’x10’ horse stall with only one small window. Sometimes there are over 100 birds in each stall.

If I could i'd drive over there and take all of those birds home with me.. Maybe one day
I'd actually would love to build a barn out in the back pasture and fence in a couple acres of land and get myself some Ex battery hens to raise~ That'l have to wait until after I get all my breeding pens done and when I actually have the money to do so :D

Oh my gosh that would be so awesome if you could rescue ex battery Leghorn & Red Sex Link hens! I want to rescue ex battery hens also.

Those don't look sick at all to me..:idunno...Congrats on the Birds...

That's my dream. I've actually got it all thought out, I'd get a 12 x 50 Hoop barn like this one https://www.farmtek.com/farm/suppli...ngs-ft_livestock_housing;pg103739_103741.html and clear out the forest behind me and fence it all in (Which is about 8 acres) And i'd have a mixed pasture of clover, Alfalfa, Timothy grass, and Ryegrass for them to be able to go out and forage in whenever they please. The only thing is it's super hard to find ex battery hens here. There aren't as many big egg companies as there were when I was younger, Which is amazing, But I would have to drive out really far

It's the Isa browns and RIRs that are sickly, The other birds are fine. The 6 had crap and mud caked on their butts and legs before I gave them a bath and scrubbed them down thoroughly, They're looking much better already but they're under weight and have a bad mite problem  I had some crawling on me when just handling them.. :sick

Oh my. :hugs I bet soon the ones that ran back to the gazebo will be out foraging more in no time. Will you use anything besides DE for the mites?

They look happy to be with you!

Oh my gosh that would be so awesome if you could rescue ex battery Leghorn & Red Sex Link hens! I want to rescue ex battery hens also.
I want in on the rescue! I'm surrounded by chicken farms here..... mostly white leghorn and the white meat birds.

poultry protector from tsc works great but it can be a bit pricey for their conditio. And the number of birds you have
