Shannon every broody hen I had would trash the feeder trying to scratch out feed to the chicks. My bantams are the worse for vigorous mothering. They also will end up scratching the chicks about if they get in the way. :lol:
Yes...I know. Pearl would get scratching so fast the Chick looked like pool balls rolling. I don't care about the feed being scratched out at all it's the water container I was concerned about. Now it's a bigger font with more weight.

With the water this time of year I would be worried about chicks stepping in it and getting wet feet. Good thing you have that heat lamp but keep an eye. Wet toes can get frostbite. I'm sure you always know that though. :)

Yes...These are my 3rd winter hatch.. I have it warm enough so they won't freeze...:hugs...Everything is right close to the nest so they don't have to far to go for feed or water..:hugs
