I have 6 call ducks 3 female and 3 male we have had them since october i have noticed the past few days they all have been picking on one male what causes this and how di i stop it?

Is the one male a different color than the rest? I recently had the same problem when the darker colored males and females attacked my white male Call duck.

I had to separate my White from the rest of them. He is now with my Black Bibbed female, who doesn't pick on him.

The others got so rough that they tore my White's wing tips off and had him bloodied in the tub. Keep an eye on your male. You may have to separate him from the others.

They are the same color they are all grey call ducks but wonder why they wold start doing this now. They have been together since we got them and they are all the same age.

In the wild the healthier animals can tell when one is sick or injured or weaker than the rest. It may be that this one isn't as strong as the others or it may be sick. Animals that are sick are very good at masking their illness because its certain death in the wild.

Watch the one that's getting picked on closely.

You might want to take him out and one other and separate them for a few days then try reintroducing them back into the flock. When ever I'm going to remove one from the flock, I always take another one out as well so that there's 2 of them together.

it is mating season and sometimes they pick on the weakest male......U could put him in another pen with a female.

That's what I would do!

My pair of Hookbills have been in the same pen with their Campbell and Runner "brothers & sisters" forever. But now it's spring, and the other drakes are giving my poor Hookbill drake a beating. No blood or anything, just some feathers ripped out. I'm actually taking measurements to put up a partition in one of my pens today to separate the Hookbills out.

Hi, I've been lurking for a year. When I read your comment about call ducks mating right now, I was spurred into posting..
Is this the time of the year that they mate, in Chicago, and should I have nest boxes in their run?
In the winter the now is deep, so we keep them inside with only daytime access to their chain-link outside run.
I have 6 call ducks in a horse boxstall, with a dutch door to outside. They are locked up at night.
We have only had our ducks since Christmas. I have 2 white, 2 grey and 2 grey - 3 boys 3 girls.
When mating begins, I presume it is advisable to put the colors together that we wish to hatch.
Should I divide the box stall into 3 sections and confine the 3 pairs, each with a nesting box?
The Call ducks are one year old. How do I begin?
