Hi Dinahmoe,,, I am a newbie... I have 4 calls... got them for their size first of all. I wanted a small duck to start with. Luv Luv Luv Luv Luv them.. and being small and the set up I have I do NOT have alot of cleaning. Its very simple and quick. They are Totally Funny and they give me Duckie smooches all the time..... I read everything on here for 6 months and this is what I came up with for my first go-around for a set up last spring. I now have the pen enclosed in plastic and the roof is covered in corrigated hard plastic.. I have blankets and straw all over in the inside. their pond has a stock tank heater that turns on at 32 and shuts off at 45 ish...(but the water is still cold to mee brrrrrrr) It got down to 15 last nite and their pond is completely ice free and the pen was 29 degress @ 6:30 this morning), their Hut is heated but LORD forbid if they'd go in their for any legnth of time UGGGHHHHHH..U cant go wrong with calls unless u want LOTS -A eggs.. they only lay 60-75 ish a yr (from what Ive read). THeyre are alot of call duck owners in this forum...

yes i have been doing alot of reading on here too such as feeding and set ups.i actually printed your pictures already from another post.i love it.my dad builds all of my pens and he is going to flip when i give him these and say this is my next one.i have actually never held one.i just saw them(alot of them) at a show and until then had never even heard of them.so far i have not heard any negatives about them except maybe the eggs but i have chcikens for that.how can they not be messy tho.is it because you have only 4 in such a large space.
thanks

They spend MOST of their time in the pond.(so they phoo in their lol ) . which I drain every other day, And up til now they can free range outside their pen area. Now its getting colder and they have been stayin in more.. I have blankets laid out over the rocks up to the pond and they do phoo on them but I shake them out , refold to the clean side and then wash !! Ive been keeping their food in the HUT to entice them to go in more. I have 2 small bowls food and large bowl of water with a puppy pad underneath and change the puppy pad everday. I imagine when I keep them in the HUT all nite when it gets really cold I will notice a mess, but up til now its hardly nothin... (yes , because they are small and only 4 )

I FOUND MY BABIES!!!! BUTTTTT....MY FRIEND LOVINS ( FROM ON HERE) WAS RIGHT!!!!!!

THEY WERE AT THE POND! Except on the other end of the pond. I was just pulling back in from circling the neighborhood again and I spot clear across the pond ( now Brindle and the rest of the chickenstock bunch know how big this "pond"is-ITS A MINI LAKE!) I see 2 white bobbing brats and my Muffin. I call his name and a quacking they come...BUT not close enough for me to grab-dang it. I go to turn my car around and WHAM tree in my blind spot and smashed my bumper:-( Not a ding...crunched it! Im thinking you little SOB's your so dead when I get a hold of you-retrieved a huge fishing net and managed to snag Muffin with the tease of food-the other two stealthy white ones escaped. So I put Muffin in my car snuggled up to my chest and he snuggled into my neck and hair--see it could has been so much easier but NOOOOOOOOOOOOO... I plop him in garage and shut door-I have to set up a set up in there now for them-LOTS OF HAY-DOG HOUSE AND LOTS OF FOOD AND WATER . Im wating for dusk to grab the other two. I left the food in the middle of the net so that if they are eating when I arrive I can grab the net and pull them up with the food! They are safe for now but there's not much water let thats not frozen so they will literally be sitting ducks for predetors! wish me luck guys....thansk for the well wishes folks!!! Did I tell yah I cryed when I saw them?? Yah I sobbed and ran down their through the thick brush in swamp water I didnt even notice my feet were in icey water until I couldnt grab them! but I found my babies!!!!!
