somehow-or hope he doesnt see it when he gets back from hunting camp..hehe yes My little "muffin" is in call duck jail in a monsterous shavings filled dog house with a 2 x 10 run in garage with his heated water bowl and feed/treats:) bad duck--Its dark as heck out and I just tried to net the other two and they are fast and swift-terds. Im going to cook dinner then head back out in the dark and walk steathly through the woods to the edge of pond again. This last time when they took off I stomped down everything in my way and in my nets way so when I return-IM READY!!!! you will love your calls when you get them-mine are obviously a BAD example haha--but I adore them and fell in love the moment "muffin" hatched out in my hands-he was 5 days late and I picked his encrusted shell off-he was in bad shape and touch and go for 5 days-I almost put him down because he couldn't walk-hold his head up eat or drink for himself-it was sad-we hand fed and watered him roound the clock the whole time. Then on the 6th day-the day I decided to put him out of his misery-he held his head for a few seconds all by himself!!! I held him and "walked for him" gave him physical therapy on my lap numerous times a day-I laid him on his back and rotated his legs and webbed feet-day 7 he was up for the first time-and holding his head-by the next week he was running and eating like a piggie!! So you see this little guy is not just a call duck he is my baby wether he likes it or NOT!!! LOL...their size alone you will fall in love with perfect size to cuddle with:)
Ill update if any more news pops up-in the mean time Im on the hunt for a thread that shows me how to clip wings and girlfriends!!!

aren't they 6months?do you think they have waited on you to find them girl friends long enough and just said forget it ,we will go look.
it sounds like they feel free right now.my horses do that that have been in a corral for while.then when i turn them out in the pasture(37 acres) they are crazy, wild and free.they won't let me catch them for a while and just look at me like "i am a wild stallion now.you will never catch me again."then they get hungry and its all over.

yup they need GF's for sure but Im really worried doing it this time of year-I just dont have the space at all! I need to get like 6 girls for them-thats alot more duck space:) I already have 3 huge ducks that take up alot of space-

well they escaped again! I went in pitch black and was shaking in my booties in the dark -in the woods and hearing the creepiest noises all around me. I found them Under a boat house-swimming around. They of course would not come to me. So I shut my flashlight off-raised the net above where I think they are circling-30 minutes I held that net like I was going through a college hazing!!! In the dark--its 11 degrees outside-I would glare the light on them real quick to see if the net was near them and they managed to stay just outside the parimeter of the net!!! I gave up after 45 minutes -I was shaking from holding still in a squat position for so long-I was frozen and just couldn't do it anymore:-( I guess Ill have to head over in am with food to bribe again??? I dont know what else to do:-(

You have started a nice new thread here. I started raising white calls eight years ago and then with the shipping scare about three to four years ago I sold them all. After Fed Ex agreed to ship live birds for the post office I got a pair of Gray Calls from a breeder in New York. I raise them for pure breeding and showing them. I have two pictures of birds I am shipping to a family in Colorado Monday. The female in the front is going with this drake. I was going to use them as a breeding pen but decided to give them to this family as their boys wanted some call ducks for Christmas. The boys don’t know they are coming. I was going to ship them this Monday but with the holiday Thursday did not want to take a chance on it.
They were used in this country in the early days of market duck hunters as live decoys. I was told some old duck hunters use to put the females in their coat pockets and then take them out to the water with their wooden decoys. These market hunters killed hundreds of ducks to be sold to eat. That was in the early part of the last century. Guys like me that breed to the Standard and show these ducks have them mostly for pets. I have to keep mine off the ground in wire pens because of varmints and dogs. I am gong to try to make me a duck tractor with a pond in it this spring.

Hattiee gun I have never seen a building built for call ducks as nice as this one. It looks like a hotel for water fowl. I need to try to make something like that for my ducks but Southern Style. Bob
