Call Ducks - What colour am I?

KSWaterfowl- Trout is simply light phase wild-type (li/li). It is not related to Snowy/Silver. Snowy/Silver is harlequin phase (li^h/li^h). I am not sure what you are seeing in your birds without talking to you further. There are a few differences between light phase and harlequin phase, but I don't know that I have ever seen a line of Snowies that carries light phase (although it is certainly possible, of course). Differences in plumage would more likely be natural variations in plumage due to modifying genes or simply different traits that have been selected for in different lines of the same genotype. The other difference you could see might be in whether the birds are dusky based (m^d/m^d) or split for dusky (m+/m^d) as there seem to be a few of those floating around these days. That should be fairly easy to decipher with the presence or absence of eye-stripes.

Again though, the variations in plumage seen in Snowy/Silver birds have nothing to do with the Trout genotype. Trout is a completely different color. Different base pattern (wild-type) and different phase (light phase). I would refer to the Ashtons for information on these colors since they are not colors commonly used or written about in the US (Trout). I would also refer to their information regarding Silver (our Snowy).

The problem is in the true meaning of the color patterns I guess. A better description would be dark silver I guess. And the differences between what is called what between the US, the UK and AU. I think they are dark silvers, or dark snowy.
