I have one BO! I had another named Snickers, but she passed away last year. She was my favorite! She would go up the stairs in our house, follow me around, she was a smarty pants! Then one day I found her sick and she died that same day. But! The Lord gave, and the Lord hath taken away, blessed be the name of the Lord!!

Anyway... back to my LIVING BO!! Her name is Beth Harrington. What a tank of a bird. You should see her run! Haha!

I'll post some pictures!!

Here is Emily, my only Buff Orpington. (Sorry that the pictures aren't that good, lol) Anyway, she's one of the hens from my original flock. Emily is a fairly sweet chicken. She's always running around searching for a tasty morsel in the yard and I've often seen her protecting the chickens that are sick or being introduced to the flock from the 'mean' girls. Granted, she doesn't like being picked up or touched that much, but she's still very nice. Her favorite pastimes are sunbathing, (Which she barely ever gets to do here, so, on a sunny day, that's basically all she does. :) ) eating bugs, making dust baths in my neighbor's gardens, or going on adventures in the woods. (It's a wonder she's still alive!) And that's Emily for you!

Here’s my girls, Beatrice, Matilda, Dorothy and Maize. They’re about 19 weeks old. I love seeing their fluffy butts running around our backyard! They’re in the “don’t touch me” teenager stage right now, though they’re becoming more friendly as they get closer to laying.

is that common for all chickens? Being bratty and touch me nots between 12-20 weeks?
I’m new at owning chicks and mine are that way for a while now. As are some of my younger 7 week old chicks.
Although one of my Roos, the alpha (I have 6 Roos) is fairly chill and doesn’t mind me petting him or handling him.
Some of the ladies like me rubbing the bellies and chests while they perch. But they get feisty when I try to pick them up. All others run away lol

I remember hearing about Snickers and Beth Harrington in a different thread, but I don't remember which one. 🤔 Anyway, they are/were adorable and I'm so glad you found this thread! I'm so sorry about Snickers. That is terrible. It always seems like your "favorite" passes away first....

Emily is adorable! That's so sweet of her to protect the chicks. ❤ Thank you for sharing!
