Howdy,

We have a mixed flock of six 13-week olds and two 5-week olds (Australorp and Wyandotte). I was wondering if anyone had a guess at their sexes. All were got as day old chicks, sexed as hens, I wonder if there might be a surprise or two in there...

Thanks much!

The only surprise I see is that Pipi has a huge comb and wattles for such a young chick. Might want to post pictures of her legs for others to see. The barred rocks definately girls.

I definately would question Pipi. Looks way to rooish. As for the others they look like pullets. Skippy may be iffy but I would still say Pullet.

Here's Pipi's feet...

I had a hunch about Pipi. he/she/it is sweet as can be and we'd love to have a rooster and fertile eggs but I'm not sure my town digs roosters. Other parts of town there's roosters all over the place but our neighborhood is changing from freaks and old time families to...how shall we say...less tolerant individuals. I don't think roosters are outright banned but the law might come a-knockin' if somebody takes issue with the crowing.

Alas...I'll be over in the "Local Chicken Laws & Ordinances" section...sigh...

Thanks for the feedback!

Pipi does look like a roo... but then, the black australorp hens have fairly goodsized combs and wattles too, so hold off on judgement for a while.

it's true, we'll just be patient and see what happens. Only Pipi knows for sure.

I have heard that Australorp hen tails develop earlier than the roosters and Pipi does have a nice tail. Such a friendly sweet chicken.
