Well I wouldn't bet on it. My tom boy still seems unsure. She has split the signs from day one. She doesn't seem to know herself. It is so cute to see her crow attempts. (At least they are silent.)

There's no discernable comb on my little 5 wk SLW, still totally dark and flat. I'll get a pic later... But that's either a tomboy or a boy...

My Bo's had combs from an early age. They were fleshy colored though and then overnight they turned bright red and now they lay beautiful eggs. My brahma was also huge (the biggest chick by far) and with large combs. I thought Penny had to be a Lenny. At 41 weeks Penny finally laid her first egg. (I had to threaten to get it though.) All of my others had passed her up. Sometimes they are very late bloomers.

that's pretty cool that chicken boys and girls seem to fall all over the spectrum, just like people do. these are our first and we are constantly surprised at how great chickens are.

LAG, Big Belinda is something of a Wonder Chicken! She took a nose dive at three weeks, her legs stopped working altogether. Here she was at her worst:

Thanks to the helpful posters here at Backyard Chickens a vitamin deficiency (riboflavin) was suspected. After some intensive dropper-feeding of avian vitamins, she came around. Now she's even perching.

The vitamins we used are called "Vitaflight" and are about $5 at PetCo. We made a strong solution, about 1 tsp. to a couple oz water and got them down the hatch with a dropper every hour or two for a few days, then put a weaker solution in the waterer for all the chicks too. There's probably other ways to deal with this but I wanted to post this in case anyone runs into a similar situation cause it worked! Here's Belinda as an auburn brown and grumpy lookin' three day old chick:

but she ended up the unusual golden color she is today.
