Mine have been out in the mud lately, too. And have had a lot more black like poops.

Black poop is usually indicative of blood in the upper intestines. However for poultry it can be a lot of mudding around.

Lurking here, and so glad to have read this! Every single day my 3 ducks turn their pond water literally black. It is NASTY! I thought it was black algae but there is no possible way algae can grow that fast and do so overnight. They do come out almost every day and they absolutely play in the mud created by the hose while the pump empties their pool.
What doesn’t make sense to me, though, is that for a year, this did not happen. It only started recently.

Yes, they have been in the mud! I have just put their pool back out for the summer so they are making a huge mess. I was just worried that was too black...or too greenish. Anyway, THANK YOU ALL so much, you have put my mind at ease. They are all still acting normally and having fun. @CayugaJana @Miss Lydia @chickens really @Soon2BChixMom

My ducks have black poop as well now that the pool is out and boy it stinks
I do not want to take their fun away so i wear a mask when i release them in the morning and now let the chicken mill around in the duck coop and it helps dry things out in between coop cleanings

do you clean the area/pool? It shouldn't stink that bad
