:D:DHeading to the farmers co op. Just read that they have cuckoo Marans and Colombian rock. Also just put six eggs in the bator. 3 olive eggers (americauna x SS) 2 gold laced Wyandotte x SS, 1 black sexlink x SS. Should be interesting! But back to the chicks, I don’t mind getting a bunch even though chicken math... because I need to replace this butthead Rooster. So this is a GOOD idea right?? Also ping away from Thursday to Sunday and leaving hubby with all this menagerie and a toddler. ;)

Well i have the grow out room, and we were planning on adding an additional coop this year anyway. This way my husband would know we NEED another coop lol. Also we certainly have the acreage. (48) And I’d really like to have a some pretty barnyard mixes available for the local population.

You're talking to someone who is hatching 4 doz + eggs (albeit shipped so maybe 24-32 chicks) this year for a coop that maxes out around 18 hahahaha! I want to be able to allow for losses and ability to select the best breeders. I'll cross that bridge when I get there.... that's like 6 months away right??? procrastinators unite!

Yes. So so so far away. Also I started out with 20 last year and with predators ended up with 7. Was going to just concentrate on the SS and Wyandotte’s but my Wyandotte Roos and ss pullet all got taken by predators. Hubby will not allow a farm dog, so Chicks!! Getting my NPIP next week!:)

Just to update. The co op didn’t have the breeds they said they had. Although they had the most adorable buff orpingtons. And although i was very very tempted, my husband called me just as i was pulling up to the store to tell me he and our toddler were coming on the trip with me. And I didn’t have the heart to leave the farm sitter with that responsibility. Although they’ll still have to turn the eggs for me. Lol

that's too bad! and also unfortunate to hear that you had a similar year of losses to me. That's a shame that they don't have the breeds available. There's a group in FB called rare breed chickens sell/swap that is very active and you may be able to find local breeds through there.

Yeah i have been watching their egg auctions but would probably wait for chicks with hatch rates not necessarily being great and the $$ to ship them. One auction there I am going to be looking for is the one from Boggy Bottoms. Boggy bottoms bantams is sadly about to sell off all of his stock and I may try and get a couple of Phoenix. I had a Phoenix Rooster back in the day that I absolutely loved.
