My millie girls went broody after they saw my mutt broody setting her second nest of the year. Seems like as soon as the broody had chicks peeping, everyone else went broody immediately.

Mine are a year old and haven't had their first molt. One is quite spangled and the other not as much. My roo looks similar to Buck's, but with longer tail feathers, and my girls don't nibble on foot feathers. My boy does have white on his tail feathers already, but his face has gotten quite a bit more white in the facial feathers lately.

Everything I've read says not to use pullet eggs to breed quality babies...so I haven't. I've waited till my breeders were a year old before their eggs went in the bator...but just for the show birds. For my new layer flock, their eggs will be going in the bator when they are about 8-9 months...so we'll see...
With MFD's though, with as late as they are to develop their color, I'd be awfully careful about breeding too early, because you really don't know what you're gonna get so soon....

Pleas tell that to these guys:

They all 4 went broody earlier this year. I ended up braeking them of it and selling off two of the girls. I now have one of those original 4 that refuses to quit sitting. She is OBSESSED with all the eggs and steals them to see how big a nest she can make. She threw everyone out of the coop by their head the other day.

Also as far as the brother potentially being the dad and not getting as much spangling. I have two young pullets from such a cross. They are about 18 weeks old and one has too much spangling and the other is Ok.

I love these little hens and rehomed the roos but wish I would have kept one

That's AWESOME!!! You are SOOOOO lucky!!!! My MFD's just think my (one and only) broody is crazy!! Haa haa haa!!!

I have a porcelain d'uccle bantam and she has been broody befor... and she is very protective of the eggs, she will lay on them all night and if you try to touch them she will peck you.. i dont usually get lucky in the broody department but i guess i kinda did this time..?
...

My late mille fleur d'uccle was a good broody, as are her offspring, however they are mix breed.

Love my chickies!! :

I'm not sure what you are wanting to cross them with - but this is a little pullet that is a cross between a MFD roo and a black mottled serama. Of course who knows what kind of background genetics the serama actually carries.

Don't mind her "purple" face. She just started laying last week and tried to lay in one of the broodies nests - at least I think that's what happened.
