Calling all New Brinsea Owners - PRIZES - March Hatch-a-long

How did you bump up the humidity? I'm only on day 3, but have both water wells filled and the vent barely open, and my humidity is hovering between 42-43%. It's perfect for incubating, but how do I increase it when hatching time comes?

What I usually do is on day 18 I will take all of the water out. Then I fill wells with very hot water and also put a washcloth with hot water in the bottom of tray (someone gave me the idea yesterday of using a maxi pad instead of washcloth and that's what I'm doing this time for the first time). The humidity will go up to 80% or sometimes higher. You have to sit there and watch so you don't drown your babies. I then will open incubator and close until I get the humidity down to where I want it. Once it's where I want it, I then leave it alone and make sure the vent is closed. When you need to add water a straw through the vent hole works great. I also use very hot water when adding water and only need very little water to bring the humidity up. HTH

How do you pour hot water through a straw?

I put the straw through the vent hole and then use a syringe to pour the water through the straw. I could not find my syringe today, so ..... and don't laugh ..... today I am using a turkey baster to pour water through the straw.

I squished one end of the straw into the end of the turkey baster. So when in a bind, you can improvise.

Great! Thank you. I do have a question though.... I know how to post pics on here and facebook, but how do I submit picture to Brinsea?

Good Luck on your hatch!

It's the Brinsea Facebook page that you post to (the wall)

OK all of you that have hatched already, how about sharing some pics of how your chicks are growing? My eggs went into lockdown this evening, so I need something to keep me entertained or I will obsess over the fact that instead of losing 13.5%, it was 13.08% I did a dry hatch this time (no water in the wells) as my house humidity has been running between 60-65%. I filled up both wells for lockdown, threw my hygrometer in, but can't bear to look as I know it will be incredibly high. It is pouring rain here in Southern Ontario!
