Calling all New Brinsea Owners - PRIZES - March Hatch-a-long

OK it was worth a try. I had a great time. I'm hatching in April are you . I'm selling the 41 Iddy's tomorrow. I wish I had more coops because I'm a sucker for birds. Their my life. I raised wood ducks in the wild for 19 years. I had 19 wood duck houses & every year I'd mess with them & even banded the ducks. I was taught if you take something from nature you should put something back. And that's what I did.

Thanks everyone, very much! I think I'm going to go ahead and buy the Brinsea spot check thermometer because I might as well invest the $20.00 and never need another thermometer. Just so it is known: the toilet paper was not wet. I was putting the probe for the thermometer on the toilet paper because the foam at the bottom of the incubator (there is a foam lining that comes with the Advance EX package) seemed to be cooler than the air temperature, so it read higher when in the air or when not on the foam (on toilet paper). When I dangled it through the vent hole it was at egg height, seeing as the probe had quite a bit of length to it, and it read exactly the same as it did when on the toilet paper. I think my Brinsea is just calibrated at a degree too low. So, if I get the spot check thermometer I can probably use their directions to recalibrate it (or just set it a degree higher) and I'm sure everything will be fine! I might even buy some eggs to hatch out in it for a trial run. If I do I'll let you know how it goes.

We have wood ducks who check out our pond every year and then decide to nest elsewhere. Something about my pond and surrounding trees just doesn't do it for them. Would love to know how to get them to nest here. I have to build them a duck house?

I'll be hatching campbell duck eggs in April if the hens co-operate so I plan to participate in the next hatchalong!

Yep Wood duck house with a predator guard.

Hey Stacykins- if you are serious about volunteering for April Brinsea wrote on their wall

Brinsea Products Inc. wrote: "Nobody has contacted us yet but we're game to sponsor one last hatchalong this year. An Easter hatchalong seems very appropriate! As far as prizes go it could be a Mini Eco incubator, an EcoGlow brooder or an OvaScope candler again. Spread the word and let us know what you think. Thanks."

I have two incubators going, one due to hatch this week, the other is due to hatch the first week in April...Then I'm filling them both up again.

I'd love to participate in another hatch along!

Our first successful goose hatch in our Brinsea Octagon 20 Eco! My 4 year old niece named him "Fluff Fluff". He is currently drying out int he brooder and crying up a storm. Looks like he might be the only one to make it since many of the eggs were early season infertile testers. I guess as soon as he dries off, he can live with the month old silkie chicks until I can find him a new home!
