Calling all New Brinsea Owners - PRIZES - March Hatch-a-long

Guess I better candle tonight and see if I have any. I believe we both have a hatch date of Mar 12th?

Yes mine are due March 12 So you will alos probably be able to see something! Good luck!

I'm thinking that tomorrow I'm gonna load 48 eggs in the bator if my chicks lay 7 more eggs. Heres the question last time I hatched them in my house. This time I want to hatch them in my metal building. The building does not have heat. I have a Brinsea 40 DX will that be ok. The reason I'm putting the bator out there is I might go out of town & I could have a freind come by & check temps & humidity for me while I'm gone.

I don't think that's a good idea. If the temp outside fluctuates too much so will your incubator. I think you would be better off leaving them inside, unattended. But I'm no expert.

Just candled my eggs. Seven little moving blobs in seven eggs! I want 100% hatch rate, to replace the 7 that were killed the day these eggs were laid. I am weighing my eggs daily and jumping on even .01% variation in weight loss. Found a great excel spreadsheet to do my calculations so I don't have to do the math this time. And we have 27 peeps so far in our Hatch-a-long!

I think your right! Thanks7L

Looking for feedback on where to have my vent set at... Halfway? 1/3? During lockdown?
I also here a wide range of opinions regarding humidity. I'm shooting for @ 45% days 1-18 then 55% for lockdown.

Also, when candling, are you all taking the tray out completely, candling then putting them all back in?
Or taking them out one at a time. Would love some input on this.
I know the metal separators get loose when they tray is removed...

I a setting 30 eggs tomorrow in my Eco 20

One last question. How long after putting the eggs in should I worry bout adjusting anything -temp etc. I know when the eggs are first put in the temp may go down etc. 48hrs?

enggass: when i candle the eggs i take the tray out completely, candle then place it back in i usually hold both sides of the tray when removing it i think that helps some so the metal separators dont loosen any. hope this helps some.
i also have the vent about 2/3 of the way closed during days 1-18 then have it half way once the eggs start to hatch. not sure if thats the correct way but is what works for me

i dont use the dry hatch method either the one time i tried it i had trouble so went back to humidity around 40 day 1-18 then up to 70 till hatch.
