Calling all New Brinsea Owners - PRIZES - March Hatch-a-long

Got my new Octagon 20 Advance EX for Valentines--AWESOME gift!! I have so enjoyed my first test run, as it was practically a "set 'em & forget 'em" experience....goodbye to sleepless nights, worrying about temp & humidity, having to constantly add water with a syringe to extra sponges to keep RH up....I only had to add water to the reservoir twice and, except for candling twice & making the Day 18 adjustments, I never had to do another thing!!

My hens had just started laying again and I wasn't even properly storing eggs for hatching, but I still managed to hatch out this little one...an Ameraucana/Marans cross (Olive-egger)! Please be a hen!

I am hatching as I write in an Eco 20. 24 eggs into lockdown, 13 0r 14 out so far. It is tight in there. I have suffocation concerns, want to open and get the fluffed chicks out, yet I have shrinkwrapanoia. There are more pips and zips, yet I can hardly see what is going on with all of the fluff. The first chick came last night at 6 pm and they are coming fast now. The first chick has been kncking eggs about for 15 hrs now, the other 6 eldest for 6 or 7 hrs. Shall I risk it, remove the top quickly and see what happens? Is the trampling fear or the humidity concerns the primary factor? We shall See. This is my first hatch, and I did not know how many to expect... So far So good. Incredibly easy to use little incubator. Good luck to all.

Hi there- I think this is your first post on the BYC-Brinsea March Hatch-a-long, so I take it you want to partiipcate in the contest? See Post # 1 for the rules.

Don't worry about the chicks being trampled, you don't want to compromise the rest of the hatch!
That said, if you really feel you need to move the hatched chicks, crank up the shower in the bathroom and get it really steamy in there! Take the bator to the bathroom and make a quick grab of the chicks (and any shells too)- I did that my first hatch and misted them with warm water. Took me all of 30 seconds to accomplish! BUT, the one egg that hadn't hatched, failed to hatch after I removed the chicks.....

This time left them all in there crowded until the last one was hatched before moving to the brooder. Good feeling having a 100% hatch!

Sounds good. My last hatch they pipped & I had to wait 12 hours. I lockdown on Wed. so I hope I get a bunch of biddies . I'm gonna start saving eggs starting today for another hatch in April. I haven't been out of sight. I've been having problems adding 1 dominique pullet to my flock. I hope I never have to add again. My flock will not accept her so she's my new buddy. Me & her ride around the farm in my golf cart. I named her Checkers & everytime I call her she comes running & jumps in the cart. I'm definately spoiling her but she seems so lonely. Hopefully, it will work out for her. Hope, all your eggs hatch.

Hope you and Checkers are having a great day! I have a Frizzle that has not been accepted yet and it's been since before Christmas. He has a place to hide and spends most of his time there. I take him with me outside the coopwhen I have the time to watch him.

So keep up the chatter 7L and I'll record the hatching results and the FB confirmations. I'll be soooooo glad when this month is over- it's hard work being the volunteer on this contest thread. Someone else will have to volunteer for the next one (and arrange a prize with Brinsea, they are into it!)
