Calling all New Brinsea Owners - PRIZES - March Hatch-a-long

OK, I've got my pic of the first chick that hatched in my Brinsea......This little chick hatched out on St. Patrick's Day, and of course is named Patty O'Malley! I sure hope Patty is a little girl because she's an Olive Egger!

Sorry about the 'foggy' pictures.....but, I have 11 new barnevelder's thanks to Rockinpaints eggs and my new Brinsea Octagon 20 EX. 11 out of 13 hatched. It was awesome.

Hey, has anyone volunteered for being in charge of an April hatch along? If I remember right earlier in the thread Brinsea said they'd be cool with continuing the hatch alongs for new Brinsea owners?

I'd be willing to do it. Are you basically keeping an excel spreadsheet with names, dates, usernames, and posts of pictures here and on facebook? What sort of communication are you keeping with Brinsea?

I'm REALLY sorry to hijack this thread, but seeing as we're all Brinsea owners here... I have a question.

I put a thermometer into my Brinsea, onto the foam that's on the bottom, and it read only 96.4 when my temp was set to 99.6 and was reading as such on the top (I have an Advance model with humidity pump). When I put the probe from the thermometer on toilet paper rather than the foam, it read 98.4. When I dangled the thermometer through the vent hole to about egg height, it read about 98.4 as well. I then tested this thermometer in my Hovabator and many other thermometers that I have used to hatch babies with before (all on time) pretty much agreed with it: in that incubator, 99.5 give or take a few 0.1F. Two thermometers said 99.1 and three (including this one) read 99.5 so I feel that the thermometer SEEMS to be trustworthy.

So my question is ... Do I trust the Brinsea or the thermometers? Is it normal for the temperature to be off this much? I'm really bothered by this and if any Brinsea owners could chime in I'd be very grateful... Once again sorry for hijacking this thread and happy hatching to everybody!
