Calling all pet bird owners!!

Congrats on your new feathered companions! Have you gotten them yet?

I have 3 budgies (parakeets) and a conure.
Budgies are Ducky, Piper, and Scout. Ducky is the most friendly. Piper and Scout are a bonded pair.
The conure is Monty. He's friendly and will step up on my arm and sit on my shoulders and even cuddle, but he's afraid of hands.

All active and delightful.

I got them on Saturday! Their names are Frank and Joe, Frank is blue, Joe is green.

They're cute. I adopted 2 parakeets this week too. They're a couple of years old. So sweet. Takes away the temptation of bringing the chickens in the house for sure.
The wow face is throwing me off,

I was half way kidding about the house chicken thing..

But I did want some house birds and they were being rehomed.

I'm looking forward to trying to train them. They have been on an all seed diet thus far. Any tips on how to incorporate fresh veg into their diet? I tried making them a salad but they wouldn't touch it. Tired finger feeding a little piece of carrot, just looked at it. Tried a green and that scared them.

Yes the wow face was about the house chicken thing.

It is good you are trying to feed them a variety of vegetables. While parakeets love whole seeds, an exclusive seed diet is not nutritionally complete for them.

You could try making some 'CHOP' and sprinkling their normal seeds over the top so that when they eat the seeds they get a taste of the good stuff underneath too. I would remove their normal bowl of seed for a little while before offering them this initially so that they will be hungry and give it a go. Or remove their seed bowl the night before and let this be their first meal of the day before their normal bowl of seed is returned to the cage.

Try adding vegetables in all different shapes and textures (larger chunks, small pieces, dried, pureed...) so you can find out what they like most. You can also mix it with their current diet and gradually increase the veggies and decrease the seeds.
It requires a lot of patience, but it's very rewarding (for you and the bird).

If it were me, I think I'd have the seed in a separate feeder from the produce.
With all birds, they will eat more in bite size pieces. Puree may be a bit too fine but I definitely would dice everything and don't avoid any fruit or vegetable and let them choose which bites they prefer. If you look at the last picture in post #2 you'll see the size of the pieces we cut up for very large parrots.
In the wild, a parakeet would get its seed from standing stalks that wouldn't be mixed with their choices of tender vegetation, especially dark leafy greens, fruits and nuts.

They haven't gone for the cucumber yet, I sprinkled some extra seeds on top and they've been eating seeds off the cage floor.

They're so adorable,
I should share a pic. 💕
