That makes perfect sense to me. The comb is actually considered a fault in polish, it is better to not have it. But even most of my hens have small ones.
The part that will get red is the "cere". It is the fleshy part on top of the beak, right before the beak meets the feathers on the head. It will get a bright redness to it if it is a male.
