Calling all Polish People

That makes perfect sense to me. The comb is actually considered a fault in polish, it is better to not have it. But even most of my hens have small ones.

The part that will get red is the "cere". It is the fleshy part on top of the beak, right before the beak meets the feathers on the head. It will get a bright redness to it if it is a male.

Your birds are truly beautiful.

Vet- thanks so much, I am in love with them. I call them my "twins" because they really dont have names yet. They are so spacy when they are out in the yard free ranging lol. I just love to watch them. Thanks for the tips, I will try to get some good pictures of some faces, and maybe you can assure me one way or the other.

Well, I got the answer to my Polish question today when I went out to release the chickens from the coop and my "Lola" crowed at me. It was a very bad crow and I looked at "her" and said " I didn't just HEAR that did I?" and "she" answered back with another sad young first timer crow. So my Lola is now named Onslo. Grrrr....I have to talk to my neighbors now to see if my new little roo gets to stay. I'm actually quite fond of the little booger. I didn't want Lola to be a boy...but what do you do?

Redfeathers- Oh no lol, no crowing. How old is he, so I can kind of guage for mine. The hard part is def getting attached to them, and its hard for me beacuse I have minimal room. I only have 1 8x8x8x run for 5 chickens. I am already getting rid of one of my sikie roos, in hopes of getting a smooth buff laced bantam to breed to my TWO hens lol. Its crazy....

Well Onslo is now 11 weeks old. I bought him two weeks ago and the guy told me then he was 9 weeks, in the last few days his crest has gotten really full and is a little longer in the front than it is in the back and is very spikey, but the back crest feathers are still more round.
I do like the idea of tucking him under my arm to go visit the neighbors, maybe I should put a little bow tie on him and tell him to look friendly. lol

Within a couple of more weeks the rooster like feathers will start popping out of the back of his head. They come out as completely covered pin feathers and are long and funny looking. (porcupine quill like)

You will probably notice that the back of his head will look like it is balding and be rather red in spots where the feathers are coming in. Made me wonder if something was wrong with them the first time I saw it.
