why are there black poka dots coming out of their kiss?

There's a bird of prey (most likely a falcon) going after my chicks. It hasn't got any yet, and I've shut one flock up, but the other has to stay where they are.
So far, I think its slightly afraid of the hens and roosters, and all the chicks are very good at hiding, but its worrying!
