I don’t think it’s cruel to them. I don’t do it but I also don’t need eggs during the winter and I want them to have a break. But it’s a different choice for everyone.

i dont think it's cruel eather, i think it's fine. my family (a fam of 10) cant afford to pay for food if they aren't laying

I could do that but i didnt last year and still got eggs at negative 20 degrees.

mine layed really well all through the winter last year, They're all molting rn though so the egg production has gone down a LOT and I've had to tell a lot of people i don't have eggs

Exactly some people can’t buy eggs or whatnot with how expensive they’re getting. I understand as we are a family of 6 and can barely afford much.

I guess I technically do but it's in the constructing and figuring things out process. I'm always looking for hatching eggs so i can start a small hatchery with a couple staple breeds, some dual-purpose breeds and some rare/exotic breeds. rn i just sell eggs

mine have finally finished their molt and with 10 hens im getting 8 eggs!

yeah, people pay a lot for silkies, i bought them for like 12 bucks a piece and i can hatch eggs for basically free

yup! i like hard boiling mine and putting them in salad!

Thats a really good yield, with 30 hens I'm getting 8iiiiish, depends on the day

Yeah it’s like 4-6 eggs per chicken egg but i like quail eggs better anyways and i get like 10 eggs a day when they are laying and don’t eat them everyday
