All you do is reverse the equation, so take the sum (24) and subtract the addend (13) to get X. 24 - 13 = 11
So X does equal 11, making it true. Same process for your other problem.

Just thought if I explained it a bit more it might be of some use. Hope I helped a little. I always struggled with math too but one year I got a new curriculum and they explained things way better. After that it just kind of clicked.
