calling all the moms!

How old to feed cereal to an infant has changed with every generation. The babies survived whether it was 3 week or 3 monthes. My son was bf. Feeding cereal that young never crossed my mind because he slept through the night from the time he was 3 days old. Had he not been such a great sleeper I think I would have tried the rice cereal trick.

My mom still has the sippy cup that my older brother had--lost mine sometime in the last 50+ years since I last used it.

I didn't put cereal in their bottles - I bf and that would've been some trick

I always waited to start solid food until they could feed it to themselves for the most part

usually around 7 or 8 months old. I never did the commercial baby food either, always whatever we were eating - chopped small or mashed up, of course.

Ditto.
I don't think there is anything a mom can do to make an infant sleep through the night & not be a bother. Babies are hard work. If there was a way to make a six week baby act like a six month old baby, someone would sell it on the internet!

I'm 66. This was in 1976. They must have existed, then, but there wasn't much shopping available where I lived, and I don't remember seeing any. Maybe they were right there under my nose, I don't know. Never was one to browse in baby sections.

i am going to try with the oatmeal cereral. she just isn't getting enough from the formula alone even during the day. she was 8lb 9 oz. and at six weeks i am guessing 14 to 15 lbs. we'll see i guess....

And if they can do that, how hard could it be to do the same with puppies so we can zip right past the housebreaking stage!

I worked nights when my babies were little (and still do) DH wanted to get sleep so he gave my boys his special "daddy shake" every night. They slept great and are still alive to tell about it at 15, 13, and 12.

I ground up organic oatmeal, then cooked it to a paste like consistancy, and used that mixed with breast milk at night in a bottle at around 2 months........ my grandmother did it with 5 kids,my mom did with myself and my sister, I did with my 2 kids, and they slept great, all are healthy, smart, teeth having, great looking kids/ adults.....

Well, I wasn't browsing the baby sections either, unless maybe in my stroller. You do beat me in the age dept. I was born in 1955. BTW, my brother's sippy cup no longer has the lid, although I do remember it. We had matching cups--his blue, mine pink. His is currently used (and has been nearly as long as I can remember) to roll dice--usually for a yahtzee-like game.
