calling any one from missouri

I was thinking about the waterer this morning when filling it... guess I’ll give them a bucket later so they can really go crazy!

I was sent home with some brewers yeast the other day and instructed to put it in their water too....

I’m not really set up for ducks, so these cute little monsters are probably going to my sisters house as soon as the cute wears off ...
I would put it over their food instead of in the water if it were me. :idunno
I *think* it's something like 1 tablespoon to every 2 cups of feed if I remember right. I don't usually use it because the feed I use seems to have enough niacin.

I think my feed does too... based on a bit of googling... but my sis uses and had it on hand so I figured I’d use it... she did mention over the food now that you mention it... that does seem easier.

Hi Missouri Peeps! My family is planning to move to MO in the next couple of months from California and I just wanted to get some info for planning because I'm flying this blind. We can live anywhere and I'm a little familiar with Springfield/Branson but my kids are used to a semi-rural lifestyle (meaning there's a Walmart and and Starbucks somewhat close) and keeping our 8 hens is my biggest concern, our 3 dwarf goats would be a plus. What areas would you recommend we look at? Out here it's easy to identify those places but I'm having a harder time looking in MO. I know it's going to be hard to find a rental that will let us keep our ladies but I'm hoping if I find a semi-rural area we will have a chance!

Hi there, good luck on your move! But please don't bring chickens into MO from California, due to virulent Newcastle disease in your state. You probably would not be able to travel thru many other states with chickens anyway wherever you are from, but CA would be very suspect. I'm not sure about the regulations, but you would probably need permission from the CDFA to even move chickens within your state....

Most of Missouri is rural to semi-rural, any town the size of Poplar Bluff will have Walmart etc. Traveling along 60 from West to East there are a lot of small towns and some large enough to have Walmart etc. Here in Poplar Bluff we have quite a lot of stores... google walmart missouri and you can see where they are located at. I live far enough from town on a dead end dirt road off of a dirt road so it's pretty rural for me unless I drive 12 miles to town.

And yea don't bring chickens from CA to here! Get new ones from Cackle Hatchery.

Dang tobacco horn worms attacked my tomatoes, pulled 16-18 of them off and could not feed them to the chickens because I just sprayed with malathion for some tiny bugs I saw.

I found a hornworm today too! It is so hard to see them at first, but I saw the damage and kept searching until I spotted it. I threw it on the ground and one of the hens ate it, tearing it apart bit by bit.

The will be more... look under the leaves for the eggs. Was it a tobacco or tomato horn worm? Tobacco has a red horn and tomato a blue horn.

I respect your concern but you forget that CA is a massive state. I live over 400 miles away from the closest point of the quarantine zone. I’ve already discussed my move with our avian vet at UC David and she said we would be fine but to go the northern route to the east so that we don’t touch the quarantine zone. It’s actually very easy to avoid because it’s six hours to the south of us.
