calling any one from missouri

It’s actually very easy to avoid
I don't know if you could avoid agricultural inspections whatever route you would take.
There was a reported case of vND in Redwood City in northern CA, and there have been cases reported in Utah and Arizona as well. I have been following a thread on the subject..https://www.backyardchickens.com/threads/los-angeles-county-ca-under-bird-quarantine.1293980/
We are hoping to move to OR. When that happens, I am going to rehome my beloved chickens rather than risk inspection/confiscation checkpoints and also to avoid spreading any diseases we may have here....

Most of Missouri is rural to semi-rural, any town the size of Poplar Bluff will have Walmart etc. Traveling along 60 from West to East there are a lot of small towns and some large enough to have Walmart etc. Here in Poplar Bluff we have quite a lot of stores... google walmart missouri and you can see where they are located at. I live far enough from town on a dead end dirt road off of a dirt road so it's pretty rural for me unless I drive 12 miles to town.

And yea don't bring chickens from CA to here! Get new ones from Cackle Hatchery.

Thanks for the location information!

We are okay to move the chickens according to our avian vet with UC Davis because we are over 400 miles from the closest boundary. We will be paying for certificates if it is necessary when we go to move. People forget that California is huge and there are people in Colorado, Nevada, Utah, Arizona, New Mexico, and maybe the tiniest tip of Texas that are closer to the quarantine zone than we are. It's like telling someone in Chicago not to move their chickens because of a quarantine in New York.

Apologies in advance if this seems rude. . but I am always curious what brings folks to Missouri from California? It seems like a lot of new people that move to my area have come from Cali. Do you have Family here? :pop

I just double checked on that Redwood City and I doubt they will call a quarantine since it's been 3 months, well past the 2 week incubation time, and there hasn't been any other reports. The reason why we are willing to spend essentially $400-$800 dollars to get certificates from our vet is because my daughter has paranoid schizophrenia and when she starts hearing voices, she is able to focus on the hens and get past the voices (and stop suicide ideation). We already rehomed almost all of our animals so these are the last comfort she has. Considering that we are giving up pretty much everything including our home and we are going to have her favorite roosters euthanized, working to legally and safely move these few hens is my goal.

Not rude at all! My dad lived in Mirriam Woods until he passed away last year. I have relatives in Branson, Cape Ghiradeau (?), and Everton, AR. Culturally, California is pretty rough and expenses are outrageous. Also, recently California changed a labor law that severely hurts our business. We are small business owners and we work with contractors that we pay the equivalent of $40/hr to do work so easy that they do it from the toilet in the morning and are done for the day. We can't do that anymore and our contractors are upset because if we stay in CA, they have to clock in, clock out, and be on a rigid schedule, which is difficult because they have full-time jobs.

Well. . when you get here can I work for you? I could live with $15 an hour to work from the toilet. :gig
My hubby is a contractor. . .builds all metal buildings. Not sure how he would get that done from the toilet. .but if he could figure that out I'll take an application for him as well! He would be happy with $20 an hour I'm sure. :lau
Ya. I've heard expenses are brutal there. But pay is pretty brutal here. . so. .

I told my husband that if our business grows enough, I know there would be plenty of honest hardworking people in MO to do contracts with! Out here people feel rather entitled. We had one contractor feel that he deserved 30% of our business after working one month with us. We hope to be a positive point in whatever community we settle in and my kids are looking forward to seeing if kids out there are a bit more respectful than they are out here.

Hi Missouri Peeps! My family is planning to move to MO in the next couple of months from California and I just wanted to get some info for planning because I'm flying this blind. We can live anywhere and I'm a little familiar with Springfield/Branson but my kids are used to a semi-rural lifestyle (meaning there's a Walmart and and Starbucks somewhat close) and keeping our 8 hens is my biggest concern, our 3 dwarf goats would be a plus. What areas would you recommend we look at? Out here it's easy to identify those places but I'm having a harder time looking in MO. I know it's going to be hard to find a rental that will let us keep our ladies but I'm hoping if I find a semi-rural area we will have a chance!

Walmart’s are easy to come by... Starbucks might be more difficult... I don’t do Starbucks so I don’t really know though.... but is it the coffee or the hangout spot that the kids like in Starbucks?

Are your kids in school? Good schools might help narrow things down.

How big of a town are you thinking?

Also what about baseball? ;) We have two teams, if you would prefer to root for the Royals vs the Cardinals or the other way around that might at least narrow it down to half the state, lol
