calling any one from missouri

Growing up we always had blue bird houses. . Martin house etc. .
My dad always made sure they were not disturbed. When my cousins were over one time he kept telling them to stay away from the Martin house. They did not listen. . he finally got mad and yelled at them. .
I TOLD YOU TO STAY AWAY FROM THE MARTIANS!
My littlest cousin started crying.
"But But . .:hit uncle David I didn't leave the yard. . and I don't even know who the Martins are or where they live"
:lau:lau

He felt pretty bad:gig

Was it one of those Mississippi squirrels? :lau
Should've caught it and took it to church.

This might have predated that song... not sure.

We did invest a considerable amount of time trying to catch it afterward... and then later ( might have been a few days later) my dad put on some leather gloves and went out there to evict it from the bird house... and he caught it ... as he was holding it to show us what it looked like, it bit through the glove enough to get dad to do a little dancing, lol

:lau... see that’s why you call em by their scientific name ‘purple bug eaters’ ;)

Got a closer look this morning in the wren nest and I only saw two balls of fur with huge mouths... but there is so much fur in there it's hard to see even up close. I knew I should have put a tiny camera in the top of the nest itself... but don't want to disturb them now.

Back in May I hadn’t seen our wrens at the bird house for a few days so I thought the little ones might have fledged and I just didn’t notice...

So I tapped on the house and didn’t get the chirps back that I expected... so I fetched a little mechanics mirror and had a look into the house and I saw a feathered body but no movement...

I came to the conclusion that the rest had fledged but one had died, so I became concerned about the dead one drawing bugs and getting stinky, etc...

So I took the house down and when I took the bottom off to clean it out Winkin, Blinkin and Nod popped out like little jack in the boxes and went three different directions!

They were probably only a couple days from fledging for good, but couldn’t truly fly yet... I did some real quick wren wrangling and put the nest and house back as it was and put them back in it...

I guess as they get older they know to stay quiet when someone comes knocking...

Anyway they were gone a few days later... leaving behind just one un hatched egg in the nest.
