Hello fellow Missourians,
My husband and I were dumb. Well, I was 8 months pregnant and he was most probably too afraid of angry hormones to talk me down but we brought home chickens and ducks from our beloved spring planting festival (Bakers Creek, wooot!) back in May. What can I say? Momma was in full blown nesting mode and they were cute. Everything was straight run and we learned so many things.

Long story short, we ended up with two hens, one rooster, and two Indian runner drakes. We rehomed the rooster (they aren’t allowed in our suburb) to my uncle who lives a couple hours away and already had a collection of chickens.

My husband, bless his heart, worked his @$$ off building a duck house and coop from scratch and he even installed a drainable pond.

And then I noticed the ducks getting a little frisky with our hens...

I have learned so much from the forum on this site. You all are great. I finally caved, made myself an account and here I am. Trying to prevent bird rape in my backyard.

So... we’ve got two male ducks. They need some girl ducks. We don’t have space to provide them some women and yeah, ducks are delicious but I just can’t bring myself to kill these two idiots that I’ve raised from ducklings. They swam in our bathtub...

I could post on Craigslist but let’s be serious, they’re going to be someone’s dinner. I’m kind of ashamed it can’t be mine.

I knew this was a long shot but it was worth a try. Right now, they are kept separate from our hens. We are located in St. Louis County, MO.

Oh, yeah. I should mention that they are appx. 5 months old, in good health, and shouldn’t be separated. Our 4 year old named them Quackers and Jack.

Hi, you live close to me! I am just inside the Jefferson County boarder ( Fenton/High Ridge/ Cedar Hill area). Unfortunately, I do not have ducks. ( I would eat your ducks if I got them, so don't give them to me!)
But I did want to say Hi since we live pretty close to each other. Good luck finding a good home for your drakes!
By the way, I think it is super cool that your husband built a drainable pond!

Wolf spiders are so cool! Seems like we have them everywhere. Last week I found one doing the back stroke in my chicken's outside water bowl. Helped the little bugger out. It immediately jumped off the end of the rake handle I'd use as a rescue tool....landed in the dirt, right in front of my bantam cross hen that loves mice...spiders, she ain't picky. I had to chuckle as it reminded me of a scene from Final Destination where the victim dodges death only to meet their end in some other gruesome manner.

The ones I think are really cool are the giant golden orb garden spiders. I haven't seen any this summer though. Maybe the hard winter last year killed them off.

Hi fellow Missourians. haven't posted here in a while. Wanted to stop in and say howdy!:frow

Everybody ready for the cold snap? I tell ya it felt more like November in Macon County than October. My coop faces north so I was out throwing plastic over windows to keep the wind gusts out. I'm in no way mentally ready for winter.

Dinna say I wanted more, just that they are cool!:gig We had one build a tunnel web on our back steps. I kept watching for the owner to appear but it never did. I'm almost glad. Considering how big the tunnel was it had to be ginormous!

Seems like a good year for spiders as with the exception of the golden orb garden spider I've seen more than our fair share about. Spiders and flies.....won't miss either one of them after tonight!

First freeze! It's 31° here this morning! Since we're talking about spiders, Fred, the porch spider, died a few days ago.
This weekend is Apple Butter Makin days in Mt. Vernon. It's a big craft fair and of course they make Apple Butter in big copper kettles over fires on the courthouse lawn. I don't think it will be comfortable walking around if it's windy like yesterday....we will have to decide about going later.

That ought to get us some fall colors!

We’re headed to the punkin’ patch later today for a kids birthday party... hope it warms up a little by then.

apple butter sounds pretty good this morning... if you go you’ll have to show us some pics.

Also R.I.P. Fred ... if the cold hadn’t got him, Shaw probably woulda hunted him down and smashed him :p
