I wouldn’t do the Star Wars names again ... we now have to pay royalties to Hollywood for our chickens

I like the cinco de Mayo names... I would name them after Cinco De Mayo menu items though.... Salsa, Quesadilla, Taquito, Guacamole, Refried Bean... etc

Well the boys could be given Mexican food names, foods that contain chicken...Burrito, Taco, etc, because that's whats gonna happen to most of them. I mean, how could you eat Luke Skywalker.

For me the entire reason to do the Mexican food names, would to have one named Refried Bean, lol

Mexican city names might be fun too, though

that whole eating the named critters thing is always tricky... I guess that’s the reason you don’t name chickens after your grandma, lol

my Uncle did name his new heifer calves after all of his sisters one year... my mom and aunts were not at all flattered, lol


In addition to Chewie the rooster, we have Luke and Han... who both turned out to be hens...

so my wife sorta renamed them ‘Hen Solo’ and ‘Luka RunWalker’... and then we have four buff orps she just calls ‘Gold Team’

but I just call them all ‘Hey Chicken’ ... and my wife stills calls them the original names, because she likes paying those show biz royalties, lol

I am at work right now probably safer here than at home.
We got no basement or really any good place to get. I could crawl in the kennel with the dog in the closet..but the closet has no door and it's built on to an exterior wall.
The only middle of the house is a tiny little Hall area at the base of the stairs so if the roof blows off everything could come crashing down the staircase on you, and as a bonus across the doorway from that is the big picture window in the living room that a cow could fly through.
Might as well just sit on the porch and watch.
That's what I usually do.

I’d sit and watch that window... if you survive a cow through the picture window, you’ll have the best ‘nader tale ever... and if you don’t... well at least your family will have a good story

A friend of mine that lives in Arkansas got a cow for meat and his daughter named the cow Sir Loin. She knew what the cow was for and she was only 6 or so at the time.

I've got two bad boy roosters that I need to send to freezer camp. I had 5 roosters in a bachelor pen and two decided to beat down one of their coop mates. He was in such a sad shape that I put him down. I've never seen a bird so badly beaten up as this one was. Both eyes swollen shut, head swollen, gashed neck. Only two of the remaining birds have wounds on their combs so I'm assuming they were the guilty parties.

We have land enough to handle a couple of steers but we know too many people who have been injured by steers/cows and are leary about taking on the challenge at our ages.
