calling any one from missouri

We call those ‘no see ums’.... they are biting midge flys of some sort...

I’ve run into those here lately too...

the turkey likes to hunt the tall grass and weeds and eat bugs that are hiding on the bottom side of the leaves... so on our walks, the more I’m swatting at things the happier he/she is 🙄
I guess that must be it. But i thought a no see um was like, a black fly. Bigger than a gnat.

first Rose Of Sharon bloom... seems a bit early this year ... so I guess it likes it’s new location

We pulled up this one and two others this spring with the tractor and replanted them on the edge of the woods where they can self sow without causing a headache...

we weren’t sure if transplanting 12 foot tall shrubs would work... but they seem to be doing well... thanks to all the rain we’ve had 🙄
I don't think you could kill a rose of Sharon if you tried.

Indeed it is a type of hibiscus... but the common name is ‘Rose of Sharon’...

We have a several purple ones and one white one... or at least for now... I’ve been replanting a bunch of the sprouts the last few years, so that if moving the big shrubs didn’t work out, we’d still have some... so we’re hoping one of those ends up blooming white too
Interesting, thanks😁

I think the terms ‘biting midge’ and ‘no see ums’ are just kinda catch all’s that include a bunch of different species

Ha, you might be right on the ROSs... I’ve had a couple not do well because of too much shade... and/or too rocky ground... but they didn’t die... just kinda sat and did nothing

they are called no see ums because they are so tiny, hard to see. I remember them in FL....they've travelled north then...so far we don't have em. but now I've noticed little bees of some sort that bite or sting.
I’ve got a problem with these itty bitty bee things that bite/sting you and they are quite annoying🙄

Those are probably ‘sweat bees’ ... apparently that’s kinda a catch all term too ...

I have a bunch of the metallic green ones this year... normally I see the plain black ones... so I looked it up and apparently there are several kinds...

but the green ones are awful here this year!
