calling any one from missouri

I built these raised beds a couple of years ago with landscape timbers.

The ground here is still pretty saturated from the rain we got Tues/Wed. Hopefully I can get all my seedlings planted this weekend.

This year hubs brought home sawdust from work to lay down between the rows for weed control. It helps with the muddiness too. Still need another box to finish around the outside (4x4x4 boxes on pallets).

Here’s my plot. Fences in/at edge are for tomatoes & climbers.

They say, but I don’t know if it’s true, that uncomposted sawdust and shavings pull nitrogen out of the soil. I’ll be interested in seeing how it works out.

That’s what hubs said so he already added fertilizer to the rows. He wanted to add it to the whole garden, but I didn’t want him feeding the sawdust covered part. Weeds are strong enough around here as it is. We did a few rows last year. It definitely helped & I couldn’t tell that it bothered my veggies any. I’ve also used pine shavings from the coop between rows in the past with success. That doesn’t smell as good though 😉

We got 1.7” rain in such a short period yesterday that the stream was roaring like a river and spilling out of its banks.
Now it looks back to normal.
I saw on the news about 17 year cicadas (brood X) coming out this year in 15 states, but not here. It looks like we aren’t getting any periodic ones this year, just the yearlies. I love cicadas, can’t wait to hear them!

Noisy outfits!
I like them as long as there aren't a whole bunch of them.
