Now we are down to 20% chance of rain and the sun is out so I watered the plants.

So far Bambi has not come on board with deer food so I put apples and corn in the pile to see if she gets the memo or not.

I wonder if some apple juice on it would make her interested? Maybe not soaked but lightly sprayed....

but I think you’re spot on with the southern hognose based on your pic…

I see a hognose snake around here every so often ( we call them “spread heads” ) … but they aren’t real common…

I caught one in 2017 in a minnow trap just set on the ground… I turned it loose… and remember reading they mostly eat toads

the ones I see here look like this pic ( from the web) but I like JTs better!

kinda interesting, I remember JT posting something else (snake, lizard, etc) in the past, where his local variety looked much different than what I see here, not much further north.

It doesn't look exactly like any of these really,
But I don't think it's a copperhead.
Hognose would be the closest thing to what I see on this site.

We have gotten a lot of rain over the past 4 days with more predicted for Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. It’s definitely doing a number on the chicken yard!

Before I went to bed, we had totaled over 7” , this is over 3 days. They are predicting another inch over the next 24 hours.
But on the bright side, it’s 69 this morning!
I have 2 kids in Oregon. Portland got up to 114 yesterday, and Hood River 110 !!!! Luckily both have AC where they live, a lot of people don’t.

I'll take it over 114 though.
Somehow my first two maters ripened up on the vine yesterday. Waded through an inch of water to get them. Plants are tall and seem to be doing good but they aren't putting on much fruit.

I've been picking tomatoes like crazy and tossing them out in the yard. For some reason my deck planters are having a calcium deficiency and I'm getting a lot of blossom rot. I've added calcium nitrate twice now so we'll see if it stops.
