ugh still snowing. normally I would not care. however my dd7 is at my mom's house and we can't get her. there is a very dangerous hill with a sharp turn at the bottom. last year mom and dad ended up upside down in the creek at the bottom of the hill, totaled the truck but they were OK. so hopefully the road crews will dig them out by tomorrow

The great thing about having chickens is that when we go to a family gathering, I get all the leftovers that will not be eaten to bring home to my chickens. My girls have eaten very well the last few days. Its a good thing too because with all this snow, all they do is sit in the house and eat.

I have a couple of my mottled cochin bantams that I hatched this spring starting to lay over the past few days so that makes me very happy. I have been thinking about my spring hatching already.

I can't wait!

I am a transplant from MI to Marionville, MO which is about 25 miles southwest of Springfield. I am about an hour from Branson and the border to Oklahoma so close to just about anything. Anyone else from around this area?

Thanks for the welcome. I am fairly new to this raising chickens. In MI we couldn't have them and now I am in MO and on a 25 acre non working farm with lots of room. I have a chicken house that was here. Just had to make a pen on the inside so they didn't take up the whole "house". Have been reading a lot of BYC and got very good advice from the people on here. Have a couple of the girls who are feather less around the tail area but thinking this is molting so not worried about it. Mixed the Silver Campine's in with my RIR's and they did well after learning their place in the pecking order. Would love to add more to the flock so am thinking about letting a few of the girls sit on some eggs when the weather gets nicer. Don't want the chicks to get cold. I raised the SC on my patio in a bath tub for the first few months of their lives. I do pamper my chickens and tend to treat them like humans some of the time. Had an air conditioner in the chicken house to keep it cooler for them. It didn't work that well so am thinking I need to insulate or something. There is nothing but wood on the walls right now but the heat lamps make me feel better.
