My young Cayugas have started laying.
Out in the middle of the run so they freeze the minute they hit the ground

Somehow I missed an egg yesterday and it froze and broke overnight.

Three hens didn't want to go into the coop and the door was about to close so I had to use the broom to get them out from under the coop and stuff them inside.

I figured it out this morning Lucy had pushed the doors open and went into the nest box to lay an egg and in the mean time the auto door closed so she spent the night in the run or nest box.

I found a frozen egg this morning. Gotta go out every hour to check…

Sunny, 15º this morning and warming….32 is going to seem balmy

When I got outside this morning I caught myself thinking 12 degrees with sun and low wind felt warm. Really looking forward to 30 degrees today.

It was 2°F this morning when I went out to open the chicken door... decided it's best if I just go start some fires before I get my hair wet in the shower.

Speaking of chickens I still had to escort 3 hens into the coop last night but none came back out. All in all I think the merge is going very well.
