who said you have to live on a farm? i live right in the middle of town! got sheep, pigs, donkey, chickens and pigeons right now. that does flucuate somewhat though, i have had as many as 3000 chickens and 5000 pigeons her at once. along with 30 pigmy goats, coon dogs, horses, and grandkids.

city keeps trying to give me flack, but they know there is nothing they can do. i have been here way to long!

I'm not trying to brag or anything (ha ha ha) but I am still in California and took the 3 dogs I brought with me to the beach yesterday ... 64 degrees and bright and sunny

SO glad I'm not home shoveling snow but am sorry you all are!

Be safe guys!!

Tiff- I am so not jealous. I wouldn't trade spending ten minutes putting all my snow clothes on, boots, etc., and trapsing in 16 inches of thick snow in the blinding sunlight to my chickens for sunny, warm California. (Did that sound convincing?)

I think my kids and I are building snowmen today. I am trying kinda hard to clean the house but after 4 days in, I really just wanna go out and play, no matter what the weather. Ya do need blinders on today- that sun is shinen bright.

Woke up this morning to the sound of a plow truck going by. Looked out and saw that we had gotten three more inches of snow. This time it is more what we are used to around here. It will snow and then the sun comes out and melts it away. It is a beautiful day out today. The sun is shining and the snow is melting.

I have not been able to coax my girls out of the coop all week long so I went out and shoveled an area of snow away so they could see a bit of ground. They still would not come out, they were just standing in front of the pop door looking at me. I finally went and got a couple of clumps of straw and put them in the run to entice them to come out. They eventually did and they went right for the straw scratching through it and eating any of the grain that had remained on it. I could here when my rooster jumped down off the roost. He made a big thud and my wife said "Here comes Paramus'. Then he came out clucking and started spreading the straw out for his girls. They all seemed pretty happy and it felt good for me to see the girls out of the coop.

Don't know how long this weather will last though because they are predicting more snow tomorrow night and Wednesday along with colder temperatures again.

I threw my chickens out in the snow. Yep, meany I am. About 8 decided it was OK if they stayed on the path that had been shoveled and the rest went back in the house.

I also got on a step stool and discovered my BB Red/Aracauna mix hen has been laying eggs in the eaves of the chicken house. Found about 10 in there. Its a small space but perfect size for a little bird. Come Spring, I will have to put in netting or something to keep her out. I guess its a good thing its winter or I could have had a whole nest of chicks.

It really was a beautiful day. I will take them however we can get them.

Just stopped by to check on everyone! It's been a long week... DH left Sunday for sunny SC and I'm stuck her ein the 22 inches of snow with the kids, cats, puppy, chickens and a driveway I can't drive down! So, we're camping out at Gma's house for the week... Wonderful Father-In-Law is going out to my house in his BIG Ford and feeding the birds and cats for me.

Hope everyone is doing good!! I for one can't wait for the 55 degree weather that is i nthe forecast for next week!

Did I ever mention that "I hate winter"?

Today it just seemed so darn cold!

I gave my 6 roosters to a friend to process. I just couldn't do it. Its funny, the hens seem so Happy! And it sure is quiet here. Surprisingly the hens are going outside. I was going to shovel it out for them but I found my shovel leaning against the coop.....frozen to the ground! I couldn't budge it.

The girls have been going great in the egg laying department too. I have been averaging 9 eggs daily out of 12 hens. Not bad huh?

Stay warm everyone.

Your girls are laying very good! I get anywhere from 4-9 eggs a day from my 14 girls. Just depends on their mood!

some of my girls have a little age on them and I have some that have just started to lay as well.
