calling any one from missouri

I finally decided to get the incubator out and clean it up yesterday. I have had it maintaining 99.5 degrees real good for 24 hours. I finally loaded it with 12 mottled cochin eggs and 2 barn yard suprize eggs tonight.
I hope I get at least 80% hatch out of my mottleds so wish me luck.

Yes I am very happy with them. Two of them are 1 1/2 yrs old and the rest are 9 months. I do not add light to help them lay. There are only 3 of us in the family, so more than enough eggs for us. I am thinking of taking some to the local shop here that helps low income people. They give away clothing and food there.

Davony's chicks- good luck with the babies. If you are successful and have extras, I would be interested in a few.

Another day off from school for us today, not snow day but teacher work day. I have worked enough that I did not have to go in.

I mentioned sometime back that I like snow but this is getting ridiculous. The snow is so crunchy and slick. Its a challenge to walk to the hen house. And did I mention that they are eating and eating and eating. Can I get them a chicken treadmill? At least give them something to do besides eat. The blessing is that no one gets picked on. When I used to have buff orpingtons, they picked on the other birds a lot, especially in the winter. Glad I decided to eat them.

Is it spring yet? I hear 50's are on the way. So we go from ice cleats to mud boots. That's Missouri for you.

I wish this thing had spell check. As an English teacher, it drives me crazy when I post and notice I spelled something wrong.

Davony I can't wait to see the results. Keep us posted.

Missy3b I hate mud ALMOST as much as I hate winter

. I don't care what I do, my floors are always muddy. Of course the dog doesn't help.

The paddock at the barn gets terrible! Sometimes the mud is so deep I loose my boot. Picture me hopping around on one foot trying to pull my boot out of the mud! One time I was pushing the wheel barrel through 6 inches of mud to the manure pile and when I tried to dump it out I went right over with it! After many tries I finally got up and looked around to see if anyone saw me!

My life could be a comedy show if someone followed me around with a camera

Off subject question- Does anyone have rabbit experience? My youngest son, the chicken whisperer has decided he wants to show rabbits for 4-H in addition to chickens. (Yes, its my fault for mentioning it as we walked around the pet store looking at fish) I would like to find a reputable breeder of rabbits here in central Mo. We bought a book and he found some he likes but I like to hear from people who have been there, done that. We have emailed someone from Craig's list that has rabbits for sale but I thought I would put it out here too. Thanks.

Hatch update. Ok I will be honest this was pretty much an experiment. Most of these eggs were over a week old and a few up to 2 weeks.
I finally candled tonight and it looks like at least 3 are no good. There are a couple that I am not sure about but there a at least 5 that look really good.

Thanks for the support! I will keep updating as this hatch develops.

So I broke the news to my husband yesterday that we're in the market for more chickens... He actually took it rather well! If this weather cooperates, I will be driving all over MO to pick up the new girls in the next few weeks.

I really don't need anymore right now but what the heck!

I ordered a dozen mixed bantam cochins. She said I can expect Mille fleur, calico, white, black, mottled and buff.

I can't wait to see what I get! I am so EGGCITED!!
