calling any one from missouri

Hey all! Sorry I went missing. Just been crazy busy here.

RE: The chicks suddenly getting ill. It's been my experience that about the only thing that drops a bird virtually overnight is Cocci. Definitely try the Corid as others mentioned. But also be advised... it may take 24-48 hours to notice a change for the better. I've been dealing with my favorite rooster who two avian vets (one with a background in poultry) can't figure out what exactly was wrong with him. However, the most valuable piece of information I learned during the week of panic was that even though his antibiotics were heavy, it would take 48 hours for those to begin to kick in. Sure enough, on day three of the prescription, he began to show improvements.

Also wanted to mention to you within driving distance of Warrensburg, on the 28th of this month there's a very large small animal swap taking place. It's backed by some very respected local breeders who typically never do swaps but got together hoping to do more of a quality type swap -- my understanding. I know there are going to be some very nice birds there. And not just in the terms of "Show quality" but folks who look out for the overall health of their animals from hatch day forward.

In any case, I'm going and I'd love to meet some of you in person! https://www.facebook.com/events/1156654711012114/

Last -- anyone looking for some EE chicks? Or know of anyone looking? I've got...a bunch...incubating, if so. They should be hatching in another ten days or so. And I'm in Lee's Summit four or five times a week, so I could bring partway if you're up north. Hatching eggs too, if anyone's interested. Oh, and I verified fertility on my Speckled Sussex yesterday. I can do those in limited amounts.

Finally this weather has let up and we were able to get our English Orps out. My Tolbunt cockerel just learned his crow--hopefully those eggs will become fertile any day now. LOL. And I'm soooo excited as I just made the arrangements for some buff laced Polish in the very near future. Very very excited!!

Hope everyone is doing well! Sounds like you are :)

must see post #12887

I am not going to any swaps until this season of AI is over, if you know the person holding the swaps please telephone them and see if they want to cancel.

Missouri has at least 2 outbreaks in commercial turkey facilities along the I44. One Central the other just NW of STL. Northern Arkansas has had incident. KS - just West of KC it hit a backyard breeder's flock. My NPIP guy said something about Joplin area heading back out MOnday to finish testing there - would assume also AI as they have to test everything within a so many mile radius. I'm waiting to hear for sure but I think all regular auction places have been told no poultry. Swaps are informal for the most part but might be a good idea to hold off.....

Question: are there any issues with ysing wildflower seeds in permaculture beds for the chickens? We're probably going to use buckwheat, but thought wildflowers might attract butterflies and bees also.
