calling any one from missouri

This particular strain of AI is naturally occurring in waterfowl and has no history or indication of jumping to humans.  They did test and will do follow up testing of those that tested and handled the depopulation.  Just precautions - not concern.

Deer are somewhat territorial.  Waterfowl migration range runs pretty much from South America to the Artic.
Ducks are the carriers for this outbreak.  Could not eradicate without pretty much wiping out all the waterfowl there are - that's not going to happen.

One of the turkey facilities is right next to a Nature Preserve....

Anyway, now that its been found in birds in our migratory path we can pretty much look forward to being at risk Spring and Fall.  It's a pretty small risk really, for most.  Those with ducks and geese, mixed flocks, especially with farm ponds and places where wild waterfowl gather, should confine them during the seasonal migration, or at least isolate.  Turkeys are extremely sensitive to it.  Chickens not so much.   What I found reassuring is that the two incidents were isolated, was not  spreading out to surrounding areas from the original hot spots.
Thanks for the Info

Ditto, Edencamp.

We have a good sized pond on our property. I went down today just to take a walk and spooked a wild mallard that was on the far side of the pond. I made sure he knew he wasn't welcomed and plan to go down daily and make sure there are no wild ducks looking to take up housekeeping. It is unusual for us to see anything outside of an occasional crane or a shore bird around one of our ponds but I in the mood no to take any chances.

carolsmith7878 thank you so much..... my chicks are getting better and no new cases....thank you thank you for the link and info. and for making me take another look at the cause ....

I'm glad that it worked, and your birds are getting better. I'd keep them on it for at least 10 days, then after you have finished giving the Corid, give them some yogurt with beneficial bacteria (like Activia), and put some poultry vitamins in their water for a few days. Do not give poultry vitamins and Corid at the same time.

Let me know how it works out, and have a great night!

:)

speaking of orchleins I might have to avoid them till they are done selling chicks for the year, it was all I could do to keep from buying them all.. and those ducks.. My wife still had to go and look, luckily I got her out of there before any damage could be done. than just to taunt me.... in the check out line the people in front of us and behind us had chicks just chirping away and the cashier says " what no chicks for you"

to much of a tease

Same thing happened to me only it was Tractor Supply.

I went in Sunday to pick up a parvo vaccine for one of our dogs and my path took me by the 'baby chick' bins. I told myself to keep walking but just couldn't resist peeping in on what they had left. There were about 15 darling ducklings in one bin and three bantam, straight runs in another. The bantams almost did me in. I love bantams but decided to stick with standard breed birds this year but those three little ones had me asking the clerk how much they were. When he told me only 2.99 I literally mumbled 'walk away, walk away' to myself.

When I got out top the car, my husband said 'you resisted the chicks?' I told him yep, I have plans to get an adult Welsummer roo in a few months for my four little Welsummer girls once they grow up. he knew there had to be a big reason if I resisted bantam chicks.
