calling any one from missouri

Hello from just outside of Poplar Bluff! Anyone around this area?

We are new to chickens, and are super excited to get our first group soon. Planning on getting them at Orscheln's at the end of February just because we are new to the area and don't know of any local farms - where do y'all get your chicks from in the area?

Welcome to BYC! We are glad you found us

I have gotten chicks from Dickey Bubb's & from Buchheit's, I am sure Orscheln's will be just fine for some good egg layers.

Welcome to SE MO! I just moved to the tiny town of Couch back in September. Couch is sort of between Thayer and West Plains, near Alton (Oregon Co). I absolutely love it here. I got my first couple of chickens in November and just got some more a couple weeks ago from a guy up in Fredericktown. I also ordered chicks from McMurry Hatchery. Hirsch's is taking orders for a day in March and a day in April as well. Hope you find the ones you want. I'm loving my flock more and more each day and can't help but spoil them a bit ;-p

Welcome!
There are a lot of good breeders all over the state. You can use the following list and using yours and surrounding zip codes or your area code, you can find some in your area.

I picked up some Cornish X from Orsheln's a few years ago just because I couldn't leave without something. I walked in and saw a bin full of EEs and walked around the store trying to talk myself out of buying any. By the time I got back up to the register, someone had come in and bought them all.

I agree with Chickencanoe. I bought my flock from a local breeder and have never regretted it, but of all the 'farm stores' around I would definitely vote for Orscheln's over Tractor Supply. Last year I was in TS on a Sunday morning and couldn't resist looking at the chicks. It was sad. There were dead chicks in the tubs and the live ones were cuddling up to them as there were only a dozen or ss chicks left alive in the tubs. There were also a lot with pasty butt. I brought my concerns and reaction to one of the employees who's response was. Yes, we know. The person who takes care of them is off today.

We left the store and went to Orscheln's and found the chicks to to be happy, well fed, healthy and clean, running around like mad and acting like chicks ought to.

We have chosen to give our money to them since then.

Welcome to BYC. What type of birds are you thinking of getting?
