calling any one from missouri

Wonder what happens to the oil and gas wells when one of those hits? All those deep casings, etc. I would think it would wreck havoc way down there.

OK, so we have the New Madrid fault line on the east of us and Oklahoma fracking on the west.

Why is it I do not find this knowledge at all comforting?

We have a BP 20 inch pipe line carrying crude dissecting our property. What would happen if that line was to rupture for some reason would be a disaster no matter how you look at it.

Yikes! Is the pipeline underground? Not exactly a desirable situation is it.....
RE the earthquake yesterday and the one this morning, we didn't feel them here, 30 mi north of Joplin. Or we didn't notice them happening, but since some of you did much farther away, perhaps it did shake here as well.

Actually the pipeline has proven to be excellent neighbors. The few times we have had contact with any of the workers they have stressed the fact that they want to keep us happy.

The original pipeline was laid in 1907 using manual labor and mules. Can you imagine? Oklahoma to Chicago hand dug?

I live in Joplin, Mo. Two of my girls turned out to be boys. Looking to sale ($30 each), or trade for laying hens. They have lived an organic and mostly free ranged life in our large fenced in back yard. But my Plymouth started to crow, and since we live in city limits Roo's are not allowed, due to noise. My other boy is a Red and Blue Laced Wyandotte. Both are pretty well tempered, the Wyandotte is more so since he is still pretty young. Would love to find a home for them. Otherwise they are scheduled for culling. I'm not doing it, as I don't have heart to, but a friend said he would and processes them for me. Probably the most awkward conversation I've ever had in my life. If I can find a way to spare their lives I would rather do that. Here is a picture of my boys chill'n.

Didn't feel anything here in Macon County.

Man, nothing exciting ever happens here....Thank God!
sometimes that's a good thing

For excitement, you can visit down here. There's always something going on.

Yes, I think it is the strongest of the recent ones, but not the longest. It will be interesting to hear how strong it was. Probably Pawnee again.

Scares the heck out of me.

...
I'm sure they do.

Hey everyone!

Looking to see where everyone goes to get their feed?

I found a small locally owned feed store that I can get 50# 22% MFA gamebird grower for 11.99 and 50# crimped oats for $11.99. Their 50# 20% MFA egg maker is $10.99. They've got the best prices I've found but I only know of 3 stores around here selling feed including Orschelns. I can't find anywhere that sells barley. I'm always on the lookout for cheaper great quality feed. I'm interested in trying my hand at my own mixes if it ends up cheaper [not likely] but also looking for separate grains to augment premixed feed. Anyone know where I might find a feed/grain mill around Mid MO?

I buy my feed from MFA also. Mainly Game bird starter/grower, scratch and oyster shell. I also buy form a local Amish feed store when I can't get into town. He handles ADM feed and have a Penn Pal brand meat maker that is about the same as the MFA Game bird grower. The price is about the same and in some ways I like it better than the MFA feed. It is coarser ground and has a rich almost molasses smell to it like sweet feed for horses. I think it is 21% protein. I don't know if ADM has barley but you might go to their site and see if they have an outlet near you.

I've tried Purina all flock and the birds really like it also but the distance I have to travel to get it (25 miles 1 way) is too far especially with winter looming ahead of us.

Do your birds seem to like the crimped oats? They are picking too much out of their scratch for my liking. If I could mix oats with their feed along with the sunflower seed I buy from another Amish neighbor at 18.00 50# which they love and have less waste, I'd be thrilled.

I get the MFA brand feed at a local farm store. Not from MFA directly. I did check and found they have an outlet about 45 mins away from me. I plan on calling them Monday to get some pricing info. They have a gamebird starter that has 27% protein that might be useful to add to a cheaper grain mix. I purchased several bags of BOSS from Orschlens during their annual bird seed sale. They had 40# bags for $15 and I figured that was as good as it was going to get. I like to use it for fodder and scratch. I also ferment their feed, so waste is very little. They gobble it up and don't get picky. I add the steamed crimped oats to their feed mix because its got a higher amount of lysine, methionine, and cystine than other grains. Also has a high amount of unsaturated fatty acids including linoleic acid. It has some antinutrient properties but fermenting it breaks those down. Its great in my opinion. What Amish feed store do you purchase from? I've never heard of ADM so I'll have to look into that. If I haven't seen the brand at Orschlens then I don't know what is. Would really like to try barley though. Also, would like to see about using spent brewers grain as an additive as well and essentially free. I don't think I have enough chickens or the time to dry the grains so they don't spoil as quickly.

Thanks for the response!

ADM is Archer Daniel Midland grain co-op. I didn't know they had a line of livestock feeds until we moved to Macon Co. Mostly I'm used to seeing their grain silos around as collection stations where farmers take their grain to market. You can find a distributor on their site. I was surprised to even see that our vet is a distributor.

The Amish man I buy my Meat Maker from in on Route 156 about 4 miles west of La Plata. We live about 3 miles from him so I can usually get to his farm easier than I can get to town in the winter. Super nice people, He, like most Amish with the last name of Yoder is a farrier and runs the feed store and his wife is a lovely lady who has a weekend bakery where you can get free donuts and coffee on Saturday morning.

I tried to switch my flock to fermented over the summer. Followed directions to a T, served it to my birds, they looked at it, looked at me as if they were saying "We aren't going to eat that and you can't make us" and by golly they walked away from it.

Thus ended my attempt to feed fermented feed.
