calling any one from missouri

We didn't get rain either so it is drying out finally.
@urbanfarmerwoman , I always thought if I lived where chickens weren't allowed, I would get Sebright bantams, and tell people they are pigeons...they don't look like chickens. Can you have pigeons? Here's my little Sebright next to one of the leghorns....What a delightful little character she is....

What a cute little chicken!!

It's getting drier and drier here. The little moisture we had from the sprinkles of snow and freezing mix is gone. Hoping to spend some time cleaning up the gardens in front and maybe do a bit in back this weekend. What I get done will partly depend on these dang blown discs. Sheesh I'm not supposed to be using my arms for much. MMMM hard to do.

Would be nice if I can let the chickens out some as well to enjoy the sunshine. I have a 4 day weekend coming up so hoping the weather is nice for that so I can get some work done on the run. With these discs I may have to corral a couple of grandsons to spend a bit of time helping me on weekends.

@Crooked Chicken well the plastic rain gauge lasted for years out there thru many freezes. My husband said the same thing, how could it break, it's plastic and it's bigger at the top than the bottom. I guess we had the perfect storm, lol. I got an identical one so it can go on the same screws. Yes we have moles all over the yard too. Our young cat likes to ferret them out. We also have a groundhog than lives under our barn, which is my husband's workshop. There is now a floor in there and we hear all kinds of banging around down there under the floor. We wonder what in the heck he's dragging in there. We blame him for everything that's missing, and say one day we'll cut an access opening and shine a light down there.
here's a pic I took of one in the fall. I know there are at least 2.

The big barn is well over a hundred years old and definitely needs work, but kinda out of my range.... There were at least 3 groundhogs. I shot one last year with a borrowed shotgun and may have injured another -- found it laying dead in the field about a week later. The big old thing that's out there now came out and chewed on the bottom of one of the doors yesterday. Took my pitchfork and stood out there quite a while waiting for it to come back out and I finally gave up. One of these days I'll get that sucker.

Carful around those ground hogs they can get pretty nasty. they look so sweet on those ground hog day photos but nope.

I think the groundhogs are anything but cute -- and they are very destructive.

Hope the steroid injection has helped some. I've had a few now - one in the elbow and 2 in my knee.

I forgot to mention -- I have 2 MALE Pekin ducks that need homes if anyone wants them. I'm in central Missouri -- about 35 miles NW of Columbia. I am willing to travel at least part of the way if interested.

The reason I'm getting rid of them is because I don't have or want female ducks and they are driving my chickens insane because they want to mate.

I got Topsy (has a bit of a tuft on his head) and Evan as babies in May 2017, so they aren't quite a year old yet.

I am going to cross post this in duck forum and maybe the swap forum.

Any KC residents here? Was looking for information please. If one of my 3 neighbors in the city will not sign the special use form, what are my options to set-up my coop in my backyard in a space less than 100ft? Appreciate any information anyone has gathered on this.

I'm in Kansas City and have had chickens for a couple of years but we were able to construct a coop *exactly* 100 feet away from each of our next door neighbors and we back to woods and therefore don't have a neighbor behind us. I had a meeting at the city prior to building my coop to look into the possibility of petitioning for a 50 foot rule as opposed to 100 feet just to get some additional wiggle room in where I could put my coop and there was zero interest on their end. They felt that it was difficult enough to get the chicken law passed as it currently stands. I don't know if you've had chickens before (I hadn't) but after having had them for a few years I'm sympathetic to the 100 foot requirement. The chickens aren't smelly but they are much louder than I expected. My neighbors comment on it. Some are amused, some not as much.

I hope that helps, I know it isn't the answer you probably wanted. Is this your forever house? We had to make that calculation....we love the chickens, want goats, need a bigger garden, etc. Ultimately, we are going to have to move-it's hard to do all of this in the city.
