calling any one from missouri

Well it's a rainy day, so I wonder if any of you went to the Joplin swap anyway. Those walnuts we took to the huller (post #9168) only brought $23. It's better than stumbling over them in the yard....
Or having them tear up your mower.

Did you go to the swap? If so, what did you come home with?

No, we didn't go. I don't have room for more chickens, and I hate integrating newcomers, so no, I wouldn't get more......I would have sold some, but they are all molting and look awful.

We went. But we didn't get up early enough so it was about 10 when we got there. There weren't many people set up like last time, and I think there were other events going on yesterday too.
Didn't sell any ducks. Bummer.
About the time we pulled in the sky was looking pretty threatening and pretty much everyone who was there started loading up.
We stayed a couple hours but everyone left so we did too. It never did rain until later, but I can't blame folks with cages of birds wanting to avoid the possibility lol.
We did meet and talk with a fellow who also had call ducks there and exchanged contact info! So it wasn't a total loss. Now I have a source if I decide to add colors or buy hens possibly. :)
He also breeds Mandarin ducks which I would love to have some day :p
I think the ducks had fun :lau

I've picked up my share of walnuts! Did anyone go to the Sedalia show? I didn't make it. Instead, I picked up a couple game hens off craigslist. Pretty things, but I have to run em into the coop at night when they start to hop into the trees. My wife and Mom named them Thelma and Louise.

Can anyone recommend a poultry processor?? I'm in Audrain County, and recently decided to give it a second try with meat chickens, after predators ate my first batch. My cornish rocks are 7 weeks old now and super healthy, having been raised on organic feed and lots of produce. When I called to confirm my appointment with the poultry processor (4 Quarters in Perry, Missouri), they regretted to inform me that they no longer process poultry. So now I'm in a bit of a pickle trying to find a processor as my chickens grow ever larger by the day. Processing them myself isn't feasible, as I live in a town and have no processing equipment (or knowledge of how to do so) or space to process them.

Wow, that is a pickle for sure. We always whacked ours at 7.5 weeks, well Hubs did...I raise them, he does the deed. Any later than that & we started losing them to heart attack. You might want to get studying on how to do it, like now because you might not have a choice.

Was the processor not able to offer any alternatives? Or where you should be looking? What about asking at the hatchery where you got the birds or at your feed store? Maybe they know someone who could at least give you a lesson.

Yeah. If I don't find a new processing facility by the end of the week, I'm going to have to figure it out myself before these birds get too heavy. I've watched several YouTube videos going over the procedure, and it doesn't seem too hard (just unpleasant because I've raised the birds and grown fond of them). The processor did offer an alternative, but they're 2.5 hrs away from me, and I was hoping to find something closer.

Thanks for your suggestions- I appreciate the input :)
